What did you do to the X today?
EDIT: Found this. It would be a little custom but not too bad for an inch or two I think.

I did. I called and talked to Junior who was very helpful. We discussed what I wanted to use the truck for and he recommended the springs that he thought would serve my needs best. Seems he was right.
I used similar springs as Logan but from Stengel Brothers. Much more capacity than the stockers, I probably should have gone to the higher capacity spring but it still sets ok with the trailer on.
I bought a junkyard '04 4.10 rear axle to swap in.
I am not sure I will like the non towing RPM's of the 4.10's so I thought if I can find a rear axle at the right price I would throw it under the truck to test it out this spring break trip to Branson, MO.
With the 285 Toyo's the towing RPM at 65 is just too low for my liking. It's 1800ish RPM is just at the edge of the torque curve. I really want to get to the mountains this summer or next and this truck is going to have to get stronger or the trailer get lighter. We really like the trailer so the truck needs a break in the load I think.
The power at 2000 RPM is much better so I think with 4.10's it will put me right in the sweet spot, lessen the load on the trans and make for a less stressful road trip.
I looked on car-part.com and found this rear axle for $155. That is worth the price of the used gears alone to me . I will open it up this weekend to check the bearings and gear pattern/condition. If all good I'll throw my brakes on it and the new finned aluminum cover and get it under the truck.
If I like the ratio change I will probably buy used gears off e-bay and swap them into the front axle. I just have a little cold feet that it will really hurt the NON towing highway mileage. Not sure it even matters as we only really drive the truck for weekend errands in town >10 miles but a couple weekends ago we bombed down to San Antonio @ 75-80 mph.
Hard to say for sure but I think my old '95 power-stroke was 4.10 with the 5 speed and it towed like a absolute bad *** and I don't remember it being bad on the highway.
I'll report back with results.
