I think it's because they originally had loctite on them. It seems any fastener that had loctite Ford wants you to replace. Seat bolts are a good example. I re-used my u bolts and 50k miles later they are still tight

Picked up a 2003 EB 4x4 6.0L today.
215k miles
Plenty of things done to it. Bought it from the owner of a local diesel shop. I'm most excited that the heat and interior features like dome lights work, because my white 2WD V10 Ex is a hot mess of not-working things right now. Going to move mods from the white one to the green one and probably sell the white one or part it out and scrap it.

Let me know if there's particular details I can elaborate on for the sake on conversation.

One thing I'm curious about is what temps I should expect for oil and coolant when the temps are 30s-40s F outside? I saw mid 170s in the 15 minutes I drove on the freeway and my brother was thinking I should be seeing 190s. Thoughts? I'm currently researching that online so please don't frown at me for not looking for the answer, just thought I'd throw the question in here while I was at it. =)

Let’s see, today after work I replaced the positive battery cable and reinstalled the gauge cluster I sent off to get reworked.

On another note I now have a broken ignition switch, well the switch itself doesn’t seem to be the issue. The plastic piece that the key turns seems to be the problem. The pic with 2 arrows shows where the key goes and also the yellow plastic piece that moves when the key is turned. The pic with 1 arrow is from the bottom of the column and that piece no longer moves. I can start the truck by using the guide pin but it looks like I’m hot wiring the X all the time lol.

Does anyone know if that plastic piece can be replaced or do I have to get a whole new column? I’m researching but haven’t found anything out yet.

So I finally decided to start on the retrofit project. It turns out it is a little more of a PITA than I thought it was going to be.

I don't envy you. I did it once, it sucks. Now I pay other people to do it, lol.
