Looking at 2000 F250 7.3 4x4 with 173,000 miles--should I run?
I am looking at a 2000 F250 7.3 4x4 with 173,000 miles which has been in the south it's whole life and appears very clean. No fifth wheel or goose neck. I have never looked at a truck with so many miles and wonder if this is something to stay away from or if not what are things to look for or things that could be a problem in the future?
Asking price is $14,000 is this to much?

If you have the opportunity to really look the vehicle over and check these things https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...questions.html then I would say jump on it. Very good trucks with the proper maintenance, and alot of fun and great information in the forums. Check out the 7.3 section for a little more info. 1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

You didn't say what kind of cab, or the bed. You can't go wrong with that motor, and with that milage, it's just getting broken in. I would do more research on what the value of that truck is. You can find the value online. If that is the asking price, and you really like it, I would try and get him down on the price. I would bet money that he would come down. Good luck.

Read the links provided. The first check I recommend is pulling the top off the air filter and inspecting the inside the tube going back to the turbo for any signs of dirt. If the tube is clean, then follow the rest of the advice in the links.
I've got almost 337,000 miles on my 7.3. I bought my wife an 01 a couple of years ago that had 169,000 on it because it checked out better than trucks with half that mileage.
Don't let the numbers on the odometer scare you. It all depends on how well the truck was maintained. I passed over trucks with less than 80k on them because the turbo was dusted before I found the right one for my wife.

Unless it has a rebuilt tranny and/or new tires or other significant recent work, the price is at least $1500-2500 too high. If the body and interior are nearly perfect, that helps, but even in Colorado, you wouldn't pay that much. My '01 with nearly the same miles has run perfectly and shows no signs of wear/distress on the engine. Do look at the turbo fins and/or have a real diesel shop look it over carefully.

I would expect issues with the transmission, turbo, injectors etc if the truck was run hard. Does it have any mods like gauges or a chip? If there is a chip installed with no gauges I would stay away.
