I was on my way home and my brake pedal went to the floor; well almost to the floor. I can stop but the travel is very long. I bleed the breaks and adjusted them with no luck. Could it be the booster? I have 4 wheel drum on a 73 F-250 any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike
this happened on my 4x4 to me once, hit the brakes at my house and I sailed by.... replaced the master cylinder and all was well (I bought the booster just incase) but only replaced the MC
Master cylinders usually have two sections with an internal piston that compresses the brake fluid. Most likely the front section of the piston seal which operates the front brakes has failed.
The other section of the piston operates the rear brake cylinders, which most likely is still working which is why you are still getting some braking.
Well then it is settled I will replace the master today and let you guys know what is happening.
There is no fluid leaking or loss any where that is the weird thing. I figured that if something went wrong the fluid would leak, but I guess not.
Thanks again.
Mike
In time in time it will all have the goods. I just found out I will be laid up for 6 weeks after back surgery and after that another 3 for physical theropy. So She is gonna have to wait. Surgery in on the 26th of Aug. This sucks!

So if the valve is leaking then it could be the problem? I thought that only disk/drum needed a proportioning valve? Not Drum/drum. If the valve is bad would this cause the pedal to goto the floor or an inch away?
