Is the Walbro GSL392 pump OK for a stock replacement or is it too much?

Looking to try and change the fuel pump and do the in-tank all at one time.

Should I just use a stock pump from the local auto parts store? Looks like I can get a Walbro pump on ebay cheaper than a stock one.

I've been happy with my Walbro pump. Had it for about 2 years now.

Did it fit in the factory frame mount bracket?

Also, did it come with a fitting, or were you able to find one, that allowed you to use factory fuel line between the pump and engine mount filter housing? Or did you run a new piece of fuel line? I plan to run new hose from the tank to the pre pump filter then to the pump.

Yes. The trick to get it to fit is to take the wrap off the stock pump, and put it over the existing wrap on the Walbro so that it's double wrapped. The Walbro pump is skinny compared to the stock pump, but with two layers of insulated wrap on it keeps it in place in the stock mount.

Most places sell the pump with an install kit. There is a fitting that comes with the install kit that allows you to directly bolt the pump to the stock fuel line that leads to the filter bowl.

That's what I did, and that's what you have to do to get the fuel line from the tank to fit on the Walbro pump.

Sounds like you've got it figured out at this point. It's pretty easy really.

Where did you buy your pump from? I was planning to buy it off of ebay. But if I need the fitting to hook it to the stock fuel line then I might need to get it from somewhere else.

I bought mine from Arizona TPI. They have excellent customer service. They will tell you that it's not warrantied for diesel applications. However, most people have had no issues with this pump and diesel fuel.
