I was incorrect about the issue being with 1st gear into 2nd. It is 2nd into 3rd. This is a pretty minor issue in my oppinion right now. I am sure that they are going to correct it with a software tweak. It could be more of an issue once winter comes around however I am sure that Ford will take care of it. Sure beats when the fuel pump exploded on my Duramax at 100k miles.

I thought I read that the flash at the end of August was going to take care of this. Something about changing out modules int he tranny too. Any insiders know if there is any truth to this story?

the user history report over in dieselstop seems to indicate that the first 'fix' didn't.. and its still being researched.. (as of Tue 8/10)

I have a question. Why is the dieselstop the only place where this has been discussed at any length at all? I am partial to this site because it is,IMO, more open than others. I believe the techs here are the best around yet this issue is hardly mentioned here. The post about the so called manufacturers hold has been refuted here by guys at every level. That puts their thread in credibility limbo IMO. Am I wrong?

I don't know about claiming credibility issues, might be more realistic to claim that the condition is not as widespread as some would like to make everyone believe.

I was an early 6.4 owner as well and early on many folks were just dying to identify the "big" problems. It was almost like the general hopes and dreams of 7.3 and 6.0 owners was that it was going to be a big flop, another Navistar disaster.

It's a societal tendency, nothing more. We all tend to need to categorize things, place labels, come up with a big idea statement that sums up everything in 4 words or less.

All I can say is that I drove the snot out of a 6.4 and it was great. My 6.7 started towing trailers at a rate of 500-900 miles per week the day after I bought it, nothing but perfect performance so far from the engine and trans. If some others have problems then I hope they get fixed. If I have problems soon, they will get fixed.

Well said and I agree wholeheartedly... but what about the bogus production /sales hold bandied around over there? That was my credibility question. I just went through their entire thread twice because I see the bogus post has been removed. Not edited, gone. There is no explanation. I did see that Mark Kovalski entered the discussion with his typical calm, thorough and understandable explanation. His explanation of development/production differences and the associated problems and resolutions should set a lot of minds at ease. I have not noticed this problem with my truck. I do notice that I have a tendency to miss drive and end up in manual. That makes it act funny when you are not expecting it.

Regards

and IF they had a fix, and it required more than a software change..
THEY and YOU would want it fixed BEFORE delivery.. so they would hold shipment on the units they build (keep building) until they have it ironed out.. easier, faster, cheaper to fix 5000 units in the same parking lot than all over the country.

That is wierd how the part of the forum thread on the other site where production was halted is missing now. Should be interesting to hear more about this from the guy who Ford is working with to dig into the problem. Like I said before this is pretty minor for me and I could not be happier however it would be ideal if we could have the issue ironed out with a software update.

and you can bet that is what Ford will be trying to do.. how to mitigate this the least expensive way.. changing a part after production is a killer..

changing software is a piece of cake..

I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about this lately. The guy from the other site who Ford is apparently working with directly on his truck said that they replaced the trans and he is still experiencing the problem. I called ford to log this as an issue just so they are aware of it and they did not have much to say. He said that he will be posting back their next move.
