Tachometer Help!! 97 f150 4.6
Hi I own a 1997 F150 4x4 automatic transmission with a 4.6. A friend recently gave me a tachometer to put in my truck which is awsome because i hate driving with out one!! Only problem is im a little sceptical on the wiring. I love wire things on vehicals but i hate having to tap into something expensive haha...I have red many articals on using pin #48 on connector 104? i believe with a white/red or pink wire. But everything i have read requires drilling. Can i just splice into the wire instead. What if its not the right wire can i fry the PCM or is it pretty well protected with fuses. I have yet to even look at it i want to get as much info as possible before putting myself $300 in the hole for somthing simple. Also it seems it is a lot easier to just wire it to the coil? Dumb question i know but is there even a coil on the pickup?? It does not have coil on plugs. and there is two distributor caps...(4 plug wires per cap) Any suggestions/help would be awsome thanks guys!!!!

There are two coils.
You can't just take a signal from one and get a correct reading.
The factory tachs are driven from the computer thru the dash and not from a coil signal.
These trucks are now all electronic control and don't use the old way of doing things.
Without looking it up, Jeg's or Summit may have some sort of aftermarket adapter that might work.
Good luck.
