Charlotte Mechanic

Hi everyone. My Father left me a 77' F100 and I would like to put it back the way it arrived from the factory. I need a little help replacing the emissions that the shade tree stalkers have slowly dismantled out of convenience. It is completely stock down to the factory jack still mounted under the hood. I even have the I.D. tag they give you at purchase along with the factory manual in the glove box. I attempted to replace the emissions from a few threads in the 73' to 79' forum which were very helpful but I still have issues with warming up and once it is warm, it idles too fast and boggs down when I give it a lot of gas, plus a ton of spark knock. I know that seems like a timing issue but I have heard if the emissions aren't hooked up properly that can happen to. Any suggestions would be great. I would be glad to pay someone if there are any recomendations as to where to take it in the Charlotte Motor Speedway area. It has a 302 motor with an automatic transmission and A.C. Thanks for the help.

MaulMaul.....Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I have to remind myself to check the NC chapter.

I just read your problem and called the mechanic I use here in Charlotte. I highly recommend his shop. I've been using him for a couple of years now. He worked for US Airways for about 20 years and got 'downsized' about 8 years ago....Opened up his mechanic shop 7 years ago. Lots of us cops use him. He also has a good elderly and female clientele because they trust him. Good man with a couple of other good mechanics too. Highly competent and I trust him implicitly.

I took the liberty of reading your paragraph to him over the telephone, not knowing if he knew anything about '77 F100s.....

Stupid me! His first thing was an excited tone and the statement that he grew up with them! (haha). He told me to have you give him a call, so I'll post the phone number here (I'm not sure if you can receive PMs yet....If so, I'll do that instead.....). His shop is off of Downs Rd near Pineville, but it's easy to get to from Concord. If you make it to the Westinghouse Blvd exit off of I77 southbound near SC....you're 5 minutes away from the shop.

Thanks Steve. I'm going to try to rebuild the carb and if that doesn't help, I'll give your friend a call. Thanks again for the response. I also noticed your quote. It is my favorite movie. "Watch him boys, he's tricky!"
