Question 53 Gravel pan to radiator seal ????

OK, since the temps here have climbed above 95* my 53 has been running a little warmer than I like at highway speeds. I have had the radiator seals for some time, the one for the hood is no problem, but how do you install the one between the gravel pan and the radiator without disassembling the grille? I know it was originally stapled (what idiot came up with using staples in steel?), but how can I attach it?

When I bought mine from Midfifty for my 56 I also purchased the SS screws that they mention that makes it easier to install. It's been awhile since I bought them and of course I haven't got to the point where I'll be installing it any time soon. At any rate I hope this is of some help.

I would be interested if someone could post a picture of where this seal goes and how it is attached. My 54 was missing the radiator, so I bought the gravel pan seal at the same time, but not even sure where it goes.

I have an old gravel pan that was on my 56 panel, I can take a picture of it if that will help but in any case it was stapled to the flat section of the pan so it deflected the air towards the rad.

it covers the gap between the pan and the radiator U inside the pan. so the air doesn't sneak down and around the U itself..

Ok, at the risk of sounding silly, I'm not sure what you are referring to by the "pan". I mounted the radiator to the front of the u-shaped bracket, so I thought maybe the space inside the bracket was refered to as the pan. I guess I need to look again to refresh my memory.

The thing down low between the fenders is called the roll pan. Stock it wraps over the frame horns that hold the bumper. It fits flush against the air deflectors, and just touches the radiator u.

Okay, I checked my old gravel pan and the rubber has already been removed so no picture, sorry. I did fit the new piece to my gravel pan and see that it will need triming to fit against the air deflecters.

OK, I was able to get a small air drill between the radiator and grille to install the seal with self drilling screws.
I took the truck for a 100 mile run today, outside temps between 95 and 103*, and the seals did help somewhat. Where the truck would run temps of 210-220* before, it didn't even get up to 210* today. I still would like to see them lower though, I am hesitant to install the A/C until this is remedied.
