Very cool pic. I love the old round back wreckers.
103rd and State is likely the south side of Chicago. Almost all of IL used to be 312 area code.

Ross - I grew up in the St. Louis metro east and that area was 618 from the git-go. And back into the early '70s at minimum the 815, 309, and 217 codes were in use. Those of us south of I-80 take exception when media types refer to us as the Chicago suburbs. We wish Chicago would secede and take its problems and politicians with it. Stu

The people in the western suburbs feel the same, Stu!

Since the picture is from the 50's, I think that back then 312 covered from the WI border above Chicago to as far west as DeKalb, and down to somewhere around Kankakee. (edit -- confirmed on Wiki) I did overstate it when I said "all of IL". Should have said "most of northern IL".

So the question is, were there any other cities in IL back that had 103+ streets, and a State Street? I kind of doubt it. I'm betting that is from Chicago (or whatever suburb is that far south).

Yeah, I agree it's from the south side of Chgo. As I said above, I found reference to the name at that location. Stu

Oh thanks Gary. Now "The baddased Man In The Whole Damn Town" is gonna be running
in my head until I download the song and listen to it in it's entirety.

Cuz that's about all I can remember of it. But I do love it.

Being mostly deft I can't listen to what I call external music anymore and
get much out of it. But I always have an internal old song like that playing in
my head. Listening with my minds ear if ya will.

It could have been "It's a small world after all, It's a small world after all, It's a small world after all, it's smal, small world"

Don't think you'd want to take one of these into that neighborhood today. Stu

"You don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Slim."
I always use the last chorus.

!
Yer mixing yer Croce. You got your 'Bad Bad Leroy Brown' running into your 'You Don't Mess Around With Jim' going on. Raises trouble with the chorus.

Good grief! Now I'm going to have to go find my Croce album. "Badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog." Did I get it right this time.

He got it right. Trust me, I listen to those two songs all the time. Pandora is a great thing.

EDIT: But I see your point. He responded to a line from Leroy Brown with a line from Jim.
