76 highboy freshen up

ive dxecided its time to get serious with fixing up my truck. ive been working on it for about a year now. in that time ive had almost everything apart but hvent really had time or money to do it right.

heres how it started. it was an all original 76 f-250, 360 4 speed. overall it was really good shape. everything except rust. it needed floors, a front clip lots of work to the box, and worst of all were the cab mounts and firewall. you can see the body line not matching at all

so i decided the body need too much work so i picked up a parts truck. a 77 highboy 400 4 speed that was an abandond project. it was all dissasembled when i bought it. but the cab was mint on it. and it ran.

so i swapped all the parts from the blue truck over to the parts truck frame and gave it a rattle can paint job.

now ive gotten tired of the bad body work the previous owner did to the box. and of the flat paint, so i decided im going to do it properly, im working on fixing the bodywork and then repainting it the original blue

i had to deal with the box mounts being differnt. whoere had the parts truck had made an attempt at this but it was really sloppy. they made extra holes with a plasma cutter

more to come a little later

lots of progress over the last few days, i got the frame and box underside painted, dissasembled the interior and all the trim, installed my trailer hitch and got the parking brake to work, that makes this the first truck ive ever had with a working parking brake
and today im gonna be picking up my winch, and hopefully getting the paint mixed.
i still need to find a new set of doors, mine are a little too far gone

The truck looked good originally. Must have hidden that rust pretty well. Looking forward to progress pics.

The original truck did hide it pretty good. Except every part of it was too rusty to use. The cab mounts and the firewall where the worst. I ba to prop up the passenger side cab mount with 2x4's to get use of my clutch back

i got the box back on finally, i spent about 2 hours getting it to line up properly, i had to shim it about an inch at the back to get the body line straight, is that normal when swappinh a regular box on to the highboy frame?

im pretty happy with how the interior worked out. i plugged everything back in after having all the wiring apart and everything seems to work, which is a bonus

my wiring harness in the living room, i was working on it till about 1:30am

i decided to go with a bedliner kit i had lying around

my friend had this shift **** lying around, he made a bunch a few years ago on the cnc, what do you think?

its comming along good, i took it for a bit of a drive in the state it is in the first picture, i got a few funny looks. im working on the doors now, as soon as i get them ready and installed i can do the final body work and paint.

one question, i need a solution for my red seatbelts. i either need to find black or grey shoulderbelts that reel at the top, which i cant find around here. or i need to colour these ones. has anyone tried to change the colour before?

Pictures finally!

Time to resurrect this thread, I finished the truck last summer but I haven't had a computer since then.
Paint turned out pretty good for being a backyard job I think, I seem to be the only one who notices the imperfections.
Overall it's been a great truck, very few problems and gets put to work often.
I even sprung for some new 35's and rims.

.....now i just have dreams of power steering and a cummins
