I believe you can only get it at a Ford Dealer.. About 30.00 per bottle

And as far a antifreeze only use Motorcraft Premium Gold VC7-B or Zerex GO5 from Nappa

Your local Ford dealer. Maybe at an auto parts store. It's not at WM tho.

Proceed with subsequent flushes using distilled water until it looks the same coming out as it did going in.
(with a t-stat removal you don't have to drive to op temp...just hi-idle).
Refill after final flush using Premium Gold and distilled water in appropriate 50/50 mix (PG in first to ensure you get it right).

You want to remove the t-stat after running the VC-9 so that the fluid is up to temp. while driving your 20 to 30 miles.

1. Drain coolant
2. Add 2 cans of VC-9 and top off with distilled water.
3. Drive 20 to 30 miles, preferably at highway speeds.
4. Drain radiator at petcock first, then pull lower hose. Then remove block plug on driver side. Not necesary to do passenger side.
5. Remove t-stat. To do this, remove air cleaner. Then 2 nuts on t-stat housing. Pry press. sensor bracket off of studs. Tight fit but it will move. Remove 2 more nuts and pull t-stat and housing from studs.
6. Remove t-stat and put housing back on. Re-assemble everything and fill with distilled water.
7. Run at 1200 rpm's for 3 to 5 minutes and drain as described in step 4.
8. Repeat 4 to 5 times or untill water coming at is as clear as water going in.
9. Install t-stat using new O ring. I used vaseline to hold the O ring in place.
10. After everything is re-assembled fill with a 50/50 mix of Ford premium gold or Zerex GO-5.
11. Start engine and check for leaks. This is a lot easier and quicker than it sounds. If you don't remove t-stat then you have to run truck between each flush till t-stat fully opens and then let cool down to work on it.

Highly recommend installing coolant filter kit while cooling syatem is empty. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Excellent pictoral documentation howell_jd!

Also I wonder with the VC-9 removing all this rust/particles, how much of this crud is actually clogging the oil cooler?

I tend to agree, but the goal should be to flush the crud out asap and get to clear water, otherwise your oil cooler is possibly getting clogged.

Agree 100%. Leaving it in can do nothing but harm.

when using the vc-9 at the beginning of the flushing process, can you also just let the truck idle in driveway (if t-stat is removed) as you do with the other flushes or does this need actual driving to be affective??? If so how long to idle with the vc-9?

Drive it with the t-stat in and at hi-way speeds. You need to get the VC-9 up to temp. and circulated. Min. 20 to 30 miles after up to temp.

You can find the VC-9 on the net for $17 a bottle. We have a Motorcraft parts house in our town and everything is half the price of the dealership. VC-9 there is $17 a quart. Ive never seen this parts house advertise. The only way I knew about it was dad always buying from them since 1955.
