Newbie to the forum.
Hey Guys, I'm a newbie here and thought I would introduce myself. I am currently deployed to Iraq, but will be returning to the states in two weeks. I own a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge, but through Skype, email pics, and the keen ears and eyes of my wife and daughter just purchased a 2005 Ford F150 supercab, it has the Lariet package with the 5.4L. It has 64,900 miles and no mods that I can see, but that will change as soon as I get home.
I am planning to install either a Banks Ram Air/Cold Air system, or a Roushe cold air. I am leaning towards the Banks. A superchips flashpaq, and dual exhaust system for starters. Havnt made my mind up on what exhaust, altho I have put serious thought into just getting the Banks kit that has the exhaust and intake with the banks tuner.
Also..... do you guys know of a site that shows Dino test results of different cold air intake systems that show the true gains??
Anyway, glad to meet you guys, I have been checking all you members rides, and reading many of the articles you have posted. Hope to talk again soon, and see you back in the states in about two weeks. I'll try to post a couple of pics of the F150.
So See you guys back in the States soon. Oh.....just wondering, anyone else ever bought a truck through someone elses eyes??? LOL
Take care

Welcome to the forums and thank you for doing what you do. Im not sure how the superchip programmer is. I know alot of people here have either the gryphon which is the edge with custom tunes or the SCT x3. I personally have the SCT x3 with custom tunes and love it. You wont get alot of power out of it but it really wakes the truck up. I think they said my tunes on my SCT is about 30 more hp. I have also heard people say that a cold air intake does nothing but give you some noise under the hood. I was thinking about getting one but decided not to. Maybe I will look back into it. Maybe it will work better if you get the right programmer and exhaust setup.
O by the way nice truck. Cant wait to see it after the mods.

Thank you for your service. Where are you in Iraq?
Most Ford truck guys use the Gryphon/Edge or SCTX3 as stated above.
Many of us do the "gotts mod" and save a LOT of money, instead of installing one of the so-called "CAIs". Same effect, for hundreds of $$ less. Of course, the gotts doesn't look as cool though.
It would be great if there were such a dyno site. Most folks would probably be extremely humbled if they knew how little their CAIs, high dollar exhaust systems, etc, really increased power! For those who ARE serious about big power gains, supercharging is the most effective route. Not cheap, but it works. Almost every dyno post I've seen was for SC engines...because you have to tune them properly (with a dyno) to get the best/most reliable performance. Dyno time costs money too...

Thanks for your input guys. Yes I am in Iraq and ready to go stateside. LOL. I plan on taking a couple weeks leave so hope I will have some time to play with my new toy. There is a Dyno about 50 miles away from my home, thought about going by and getting a baseline run so later I can tell what bennefits if any some of the mods make.
I've also been checking out A site called Troyer Performance, they also offer cutom tunes for the Edge products as well as Superchips Flashpaq.
Regardless of the type of CAI intake I believe the best bennefits will come from a tuned exhaust system in conjunction with a custom tune, underdrive pulleys and elimination of a mechanical fan in favor of an electric fan. Roushe believed in the CAI so there may be some bennefit even if it is minimal. So, hopefully if all goes as planned I will get a baseline, then runs with the improvements. Maybe it will give us some insight.
Appreciate it again, you guys take care.

Welcome & Thanks!
Also take a look at www.f150online.com & look at "chips, tuners & programming", hope this help.

Welcome Bama ! and sincere thanks for the sacrifices you make for the country ! You're for sure in the right place for all things Ford trucks. On reccomending a tuner I'll concur with everyone else on the edge/gryphon. I have the new Edge Evo CS on my 4.6 and it greatly improved the performance. but the truck looks good and has alot of potential. Again thanks for what you do, and welcome to the site !
