Tell me how your garrett ball bearing turbo sounds like please

thanks to clay for getting mine to me so fast, my factory turbo hit the dust by sounding like a power steering pump at 2500 rpm, well i installed the ball bearing today and it has a loud howl along with the high pitch whistle, is this right im not sure what the boost is yet, my scan gauge is coming tomorrow but mine is all stock no chip and she runs a bit better, please guide me on what i need to do. Thank You

Aint it sweet?! It's music to my ears. Only problem is, I've gotten so used to it I have to "listen" for the sound now in order to hear it.

I don't have much of a howl with mine..mostly all whistle with some chatter at WOT and when I let off it real quick...mine is also a brand new unit less then a year ago..Garrett changed things a little not long ago....I think Clay's are rebuild's aren't they?? still new but the older style..i love how mine sounds..just like riding in my big truck all day long...

Mine had the howl/siren sound. It had a few other sounds at particular PSI, then it blew up on me at WOT. My new one is A LOT quieter and doesn't have the howl, just a nice quiet whistle.

Mine is quiet cruising around town and down the highway 0-10 or so lbs boost. Get into it and it has a beautiful whine/whistle to it. When I first put it on, it had a funny old school quiet mechanical siren woooooooo to it while a SLOW ROLL or coming to a stop. After about 1k miles of towing (10-15 lbs) of constant boost, the woooooo went away and hasn't done it since.

Everything I am discribing is the TURBO sound I hear through the firewall. Not intake or exhaust sounds.

* My 38R has a DieselSite ported shroud on it . Don't know what a sound difference it would make but I thought I should let you know in case someone else might have a theory on it.

Hope this helps.

Sounds about right. If you think it is loud now, wait until winter time when it is pulling cool dense air through it.

Mine seemed to get a bit quieter with time too....I was wondering about that or if I just got used to it.

Thumbs up

Yup mine sounds about the same, when I first put it in I found myself looking in the rearview, one because I had to hear it a WOT and two it sounded like a siren. It has gotten more quiet over the miles but I would do it again.
