1997 Powerstroke wiring harness removal
Hello folks,
I'm pulling the original engine out of a 97 F350 and dropping in a 12V that I previously installed in my 90 F250. How deep does the engine harness run on the powerstroke? Are these gauges digital or can I just wire it up to the ford sensors like the 90? Anybody want a cheap (1200) complete running powerstroke engine w/turbo and accesoories/engine harness? Is the computer under the hood just for the engine or will I loose anything in the cab? What dash functions will go nuts when I pull the computer ect?

Hello folks,
How deep does the engine harness run on the powerstroke?
The engine harness runs up to the cab, is connected at the firewall, and held together with a 10mm bolt (its a long one too).
Are these gauges digital or can I just wire it up to the ford sensors like the 90?
They are still analog. The gauges free sweep when tipped upside down.

The ECU is held in by a frame case that is bolted to the firewall. The ECU itself is actually in the cab, but has to be pulled out through the firewall into the engine compartment. Again its held in by two 10mm nuts, and the wiring connector is plugged in and held together by a 10mm long bolt. You wont lose anything in the cab other then ECU. there are no wires on the backside of the ECU that are run through the cab. You should be able to see it under the brake booster down by the wheel well guard.
What dash functions will go nuts when I pull the computer ect?
Pretty much the truck will go dead when you remove it. Accessories such as PW, PD, Cab light, Glove box light, headlights and tailights should all still work if you have power run to the truck. The gauges themselves wont work.

Awesome, so its just like my old truck. I'm sure it will be self explanatory when I start pulling it apart. So I'm guessing they still used the switch/resistor on the oil gauge then? When I found that out I couldn't believe it. Thank you sir.

Engine is in Boulder CO.
Here is a video of the engine running:
