I know the '86 had one and that was close to if not the first year for it. In '87 the 5.0 block was updated to be roller ready so any 5.0 motor with E7TE or later casting numbers is a roller block that will accept the factory roller assmebly with little or no machineing.
I think 1985 was the first year that the 5.0 HO in the Mustang got the roller cam. The block was modified with the taller lifter bores and holes for the hold-down spider for the lifter alignment thingies.
The 85 5.0 4V engines were the first to have roller cams. Also available in a Mustang in
85 was a 5.0 with a throttle body that was a flat tappet cam. I bought a new Mustang
in 1985 that had the 5.0 flat tappet because it was available with the AOD trans while
the 4V engine was only available with a 5 speed.
