Degas Overflow Tank Spitting Coolant

Degas Overflow Tank Spitting Coolant
Anyone else have any problems only when towing steep hills and coolant temps around 220-225 spewing antifreeze out of degas bottle.Noticed mine was low when cold so i filled to cold fill line and spewed out to about and inch below the nipple from the EGR line coming in.Level stays there unless i add coolant and pull steep hills pulling a load.My service tech tells me its ok as long as the bottle has fluid showing. This problem didn't occur until i had the new update t-fitting installed.Seems like the EGR is steaming the coolant out. Thanks

If it were Head Gaskets wouldn't it blow all the bottle empty. The bottle stays about 1/4 inch from the bottom, that you can see and never blows anymore out, until you add some more coolant in then it will blow it out to 1/4 inch from the bottom and stay there. So i just left the level there and make the same pull and level stays the same. Thanks

You may be right. Like I said, it could be a few things. Mine was acting like yours ( whenever I had my foot in it ) and it turned out to be head gaskets.

I had that exact problem. Finally got it fixed and it stays at lower cold mark when cold and never goes above upper mark when hot while towing.
1. check that the venturi tee is in right. Mine was in backwards from tech.
2. Get right to dealer and file the claim.
In the quest to find out I had 2 thermostats replaced,EGR coolers, water pump.
The water pump was the last thing they did that seemed to stop it. But I found out about the Tee at the same time I got it back from pump job so I'm not sure it the tee didn't cause it right along. I'm tempted to return it to the way I found it for a while to see if it will puke again.
Make sure if they do the pump they change the front cover as it get's damaged from the cavitation by the pump.

I agree with Cpt Caper, check the venturi t.
Since you know your eng temps, what are your egt's and eng temps empty. If you are running steady on the road and your eng temps are at say 195, what are your egt's doing? are they fairly steady?
This would be empty of course.
My degas bottle is at the full cold level mark. I am out in colorado right now, Here with the 5er. I pulled alot of hills had my temp up to almost 230 one time, lots of 220-225's and no puking.

Checked the T and installed correctly white degas to tank,Coolant temps on flat road towing TT 199-202 EGT's 900-1050 depending on incline.Pulling out of a lake here in Idaho about 2 miles to top and flat road again temps climb about 2 deg at a time and EGT's not more than 1200 MPH @ 35 Temps climb to 222 when i top the hill. There are only 2 places my truck does this on this hill and a long pull over a summit @8000 ft in north Id. Thanks for any input.

what you need to do those is empty at say 50 mph on the road watch your temps and egts and see what they are.
This can help to check your t-stats to see if they are sticking.
Based upon your temps, they are not that much so there should not have been any puking. So that still leads me to think there maybe an issue with the t-stats.

Just drove 8 miles to work and temp stays on 195 @ 60 mph Egts 800-870 depending on incline of road.Coolant temp never varied 2 deg the whole time. When i stopped i opened the Cap on the overflow bottle and coolant came up about 1/2 inch in tank and stayed there.Seems like its making its own Coolant now.

Got an Appt. Tuesday to get er fixed. Will let ya know what they find out. There was another truck in the dealership that was doing the same thing except adding coolant to the engine oil and they put a waterpump and cover in it. I looked at the cover out of that one and Wow did it have huge cavitation wear in the cover! Wore clear through and cracked.

My tech said the water pump was hitting the cover and changed the pump only. Sounds stupid to me. I bet it was cavitation marks on the front cover that he saw. I didn't have a grip on that situation then and now it's too late to find out about the cover. I changed the wrong installed venturi tee the same day I got the truck back from the dealer for waterpump job so I don't know which one fixed the pukeing. Lot's of baggage on my new truck. It pi*** me off all that money and I might have gotten hacked on.
