OT: Rat rods don't have a lock on ugly

But it actually does effect aerodynamics and allows it to corner much better, as well as cool the brakes. Better handling and braking are sometimes worth an ugly look. And that's not a grille, its an intercooler. Now weather or not there is enough car under the hood to justify the body mods is a different story. If Top Gear has taught me anything it is that you don't want a real race car for a daily driver, and that real race cars are pretty ugly compared to their daily driver counter parts.

Depends on the type or racing and the class.

'Real' probably wasn't the best choice of words, maybe streamlined ? I was referring to the ones that have gone to such extremes as to replace all the Windows with plexiglass so the side ones don't unroll, or have no dash let alone a stereo and those carbon fiber seats with zero cushioning with no passenger seat, no carpet, even a full body decal over paint just to shave off a pound. I was thinking on the extreme end, real was a bad choice of words as I was referring to the comforts lost in the ones they get crazy on. Just the start up sequence on them alone.

I'm sure was were crowds of people around it "Oohing" and "Ahhing" at it. Not one had the guts to really call it as it is. Like the people who stand around at art shows who won't criticize a white canvas with paint splattered on it. No one one wants to anyone else to think they don't understand it.
SEMA, to me, is such an over blown event. I've never been there but every auto related reality show is always building something for SEMA or doing a reveal at SEMA or doing interviews at SEMA.
