Blown Tranny in Carrington N.D. any recommendations on a shop?

My transmission decided to give up the ghost today! Being 850 miles from home and 50' of trailers to get back I am looking for a transmission shop that maybe someone in this area might have used. Thanks in advance for any help!

Pulling from Fargo home, stopped to check the load etc... and when I went to take off and it wouldn't shift into second! Backed off the pedal and it shifted super hard, got her up to speed and the tranny temp started creeping up to 210. I figured that it was pulling decent so no use in stopping till I got to a town 40 miles further to investgate. Slowed down in town and 1st was all I could get. I pulled the dipstick and she's a little grey. Funny thing my tranny temp was at 195 all day and was working perfectly. I have 143 000 miles on her and it works hard for me. I wanted to buy a John Wood next but that might be lttle tough with my timeframe now.

If you're within a reasonable tow to Lead Hill, AR or Holtville, CA then that's where I'd go.

Thanks spdmpo but 1200 miles south is a little far for a tow. Had some beers with the locals and they recommended a gentlemen eight miles from me so maybe I'll get lucky! He rebuilds them from the bottom up so i'll see what he knows about them . I will give him a ring in the morning.

Limped the truck home!

Well I had a rescue crew drive 850 miles to get my 50' wedge trailer (with three trailers on it) and I made the decision to drive my truck home. Thank god for family and a father with a 1 ton 6.0 ltr that pulled my trailer back! We took it easy and made it back. We would start of in second and just shift it into drive manually, once she got rolling no problem.

My question to you all is being a Canadian a living so far from some great tranny guys (John Wood - BTS) shipping and brokerage would just kill me! I have found a reputable guy here who builds them. He stated that his upgrades are a Trans - Go shift kit, Billet machined converter, Beefier Clutch plates and at the same time install a Tru-Cool tranny cooler to help me keep it all cool. Am I missing anything? What other questions should I be asking? He's at $3950 installed so not a bad price.

You may not be physically near JW or BTS, but they might have a dealer/partner within a reasonable distance. If you're in Canada and hopefully not far across the border, maybe shipping to a US location and then a weekend trip to go get it would be worth the effort (and import duty savings!).

If this is your work horse then you want a work horse trans. My late 01 did not have the diode and went out after 105,000 miles. If you have a diode and the builder puts it back in, I would be worried about it all of the time. I wanted more than a 2 year warrenty, so I went for the best I could find.
