What are your thoughts on the next redesigned Expedition and Navigator?

While the Navigator seems to be selling decent for Lincoln, don’t be surprised if Ford adds an ultra high-end luxury Platinum version of the Expedition to replace the Navigator in the future. It would help save in development costs as it would eliminate having exterior and interior design teams to tailor the full-size SUV to the Lincoln brand. It would also save in parts manufacturing as there would be no need for multiple parts for a single vehicle platform (i.e. the Expedition and Navigator have different headlamps so two different headlamps have to be manufactured, not including other parts such as hoods, grilles, bumpers, interior trim, dash, door panel and so on)
Ford did the same for the Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT. Ford added the F-150 Platinum and dropped the Mark LT. (note that the Mark LT is still sold in Mexico)
While this is just speculation now, again, don’t be surprised IF it happens as Ford looks for more ways to save money.
Also, if it does happen, you will see the Expedition Platinum compete with the Caddilac Escalade and it's rivals.

Great insight but, WOW, a $65K Platinum Expedition. Where does the need for more end?

I'm guessing we won't see any fuel efficiency on any upcoming Expeditions. Ford does well in the European markets producing nice vehicles that are fuel effiecient. A mixture of four cylinder motors and small diesels. It's sad that as one of largest nations of automotive consumers, Ford doesn't see fit to provide us with same. Probably because we have been spoiled to the relative inexpensive fuel.
We don't need big v8 motors in our suvs, a small diesel would do fine. For example I own both a Ford F350 with the 7.3 and a Mercedes Sprinter with a 5 cylinder diesel. The sprinter goes twice as far as f350, hauls the same loads and you don't hear it a half mile away.
Why doesn't Ford make something like this for our Expy's? I would buy one of those in a heart beat. I'm not a fan of the hybrids or the electric car. I don't think it's the way to go, (just my opinion).
If Ford is reading our forums........

I think Ford should add the 3.5 liter V6 Ecoboost, 5.0 Coyote V8, and 6.2 V8 to the Expedition/Navigator. The Expedition needs to be larger than the outgoing one. The Navigator needs to be more undistinguishable and luxurious than the outgoing one. The Navigator does look like a Expedition that has more bling. The Navigator needs the rugged luxury image like Land Rover's Range Rover. They had the image in 1998-2006 but they screwed it up in 2007. Terrain Management would be great on both models. The new Infiniti QX56 has it so why not Ford and Lincoln. Hopefully Ford will fix these models.
