Wink

When I converted a Ford van to a 4X4 years ago, I ended up having the same problem. This is what we found and corrected the problem, which happened to sound EXACTLY like the problem your having -LOOSE WHEEL BEARINGS !!!

Wheel bearings are tight, ackerman angle checked out OK, even with new tires it still did it, and the steering box sector shaft was not cracked (thanks though Tom)....SO next time he comes in I will be taking off the Kingpin caps to see if maybe the bushings are busted inside and the preload spring is just keeping us from finding it....starting to get irritating

Thanks for the update, Nick. I think a bunch of us here are wondering what you will find as the source of the problem. It's staying well hidden.

Tires feel like they are falling off, steering wheel shakes violently sided to side at approx 35-55mph?

You stated the issue in post 28. Your caster is off. The springs sag over the years and cause neg caster

Here is what you do. Get a 2 degree shim for the rear leaf springs. Put it in between the front springs and the axle to give you more caster.

Problem solved. I have done this on over 50 F350s to fix your exact problem

you read it wrong. Nick said the camber was out, not the caster..
[quote]Alignment....I set it to the stock specs....Caster, almost spot on....Camber, 0.2 degrees out of spec, and nothing I've found is that adjustable with the k-pins....either way though 0.2 degrees wouldn't cause that....I get vehicles in all the time that are a full 2 to 3 degrees out of spec on a side.[quote]

I read it right. ALMOST is not good enough for these trucks. Put it this way.If it does not work(which i highly doubt) he will be out 10 min worth of work and 10 bucks in parts. Hell of alot cheaper and easier than trac bar, bushings, tie rods tire rotation, balance and what ever else he waisted his time on

I'll give it a shot when he comes back in sometime next week.....I don't believe that anything done that has eliminated a potential cause is a waste of time, especially when I neither I or he had any idea why the truck is doing what it is. Sorry I don't have the tons of F350 experience that you have, so I had to start somewhere.

I'll even see if I can get my alignment computer to save the file and download it so I can show you guys for sure....either way, it'll be tuesday or wednesday until I see the truck again.

Thanks again everyone for your time, help, and patience with this one.....I really appreciate it

I was in the same boat as you 15 years ago. Everything i did was a shot in the dark on the 1st truck. After that 1st one i went right to the caster shims

Cool Front end Wobble Nightmare - Is that all there is?

3 weeks and no update. This is like having sex with no results. I have the same wobble problem on my 94 F150 xlt 2wd, no anti-sway bar, twin I-beam, coil spring suspension and would definitely like a CONCLUSION !!

well here is the delema. i own a 85 f250 lifted with the 60 king pin swap. first off your gonna need to see if the tires are corect size. this axle is very sensitive to toe with tire size. second he needs to rebuild the king pins uper an lower. there is a spring elimination kit an bronze bushing to replace the nylon ones. this is the first thing i would have done. toe is measured off the center line of the wheel so if the tire diameter has increased the toe has to. please note this an adjust for the size diffrence. i had the same problem right after the axle install. i had 35 inch mt on an it was a action related death wobble. damn thing would jump across the two lanes on the road at 35 if i hammerd it it would do it to. i replaced the items i have listed. an properly adjusted the toe for my tires an no more problems. i will post a link for the bronze bushings in a few minutes.

Harlight sorry about the lack-of-updating.....the guy ended up trading the truck off, so I never saw it again.....someone else's problem now I guess

I had a 95 F 350 with the 7.3 PS that did this. Added a steering stabilizer and it never did it again till the bracket for the stabilizer found a rock on a job site.

Don't know if its the same issue and read the title and 3 posts here at the end.. But, I know mine only did it over 55 MPH and after hitting a bump or something that would set it off into its death shake till it was almost back down to a stop. All I know its the most scary thing I have ever experienced driving any vehicle ( this includes a motorcycle accident at over 60 MPH I was calm in comparison)

this isues seams to mostly be with the kingpin 60. not to knock anyone who has owned one of these but people you need to maintain the axles the nylon wears out an the spring do to theses are cheap parts to replace. they are available at ranys ring an pinion. keep them greased to with a high quality grease an they will last much longer. there are caster adjusters available also for theses if needed. they are a esentric for the lower bearing.
