I have a 1983 f-150 w/ 302. My question is is what is the best carb for a 302? Right now its got a little motorcraft carb w/ all sorts of vacuum tubes and electric choke. Iam a landscaper and occasionally haul around dirt and so forth but no towing. Im looking to get better gas mileage because now i only get 11.6 in town. Is manual choke better? Any help appreciated.

 

I like manual choke Holley 600 cfm carbs for the 302. I have used this setup on a couple of 302's I had, and always had good service. I like the manual choke because there is no fuss with adjusting it like the automatic style, and they are cheaper than one with a automatic choke.

 

I would reccomend that you rebuild your original carb. If your truck is stock and you use
it as you say I think this would give you the best result. If you change to a different
type carb you are going to have to do some engineering and tuning to get it to work.

 

Somewhere i heard that when the power valves? start to leak they drink fuel but all the vacuum tubes between the snorkel and carb really intimidate me. Do they make a kit to go to manual choke?
