Well, while I was working on other problems on my Aerostar, I found out the radiator was cracked, so I got a replacement spectra from PepBoys, took the old one out, tried to get the couplings off for the brass, but they were impossible to get off, set it to the street, put the new one in, and found out the brass screw in couplings for the transmission cooler wouldn't fit the transmission lines, the hole they screw into on the couplings were too small. Wanted to try the couplings again off the old radiator, but junkman had already gotten it. Why would Spectra make the wrong size couplings? I went to Autozone and their couplings had the same problem! Then I went to the dealership and they didn't have the proper couplings and said Ford didn't even make the radiator anymore! So I'm not sure what I should do, I'm gonna contact a radiator place here locally, but has anyone else had a problem like this? Does anyone know where I find find the couplings online? Thanks
I haven't had that issue. Got a junk yard in the vicinity? You might also check your hardware store for the proper couplings, they are standard tubing couplings.
I would think about getting a bigger separate transmission cooler and not using the one built into the radiator at all. Reduces the chance of the strawberry milkshake (coolant in the transmission fluid), which is quite bad.
Ford liked to change things over the years, and being a last-year Aero, I think anything would go.
