Well, I straight piped the ol girl, now she backfires????

Well, I was bored between classes, so I unbolted my exhaust under the cab, and dang she is LOUD, but when I get over 2500 rpm she misses and backfires, what gives?

you sure its backfire? kinda impossible with a diesel since they dont use spark.

I second this myself, now when I straight piped my truck it had a glasspack sound to it at high rpm, these trucks can be very loud and raspy when straight piped you probably are not used to it, alot of people on this forum have straight piped their trucks aswell, I'm sure theyll chime in

they will pop at that rpm kinda sound like a gasser especially without a turbo mine cackles still at high rpms with the turbo

Mine cackles as well. I like it alot lol. As far as th back fireing goes I don't think it is possible for these trucks to do so.

thats what you get with straight pipe or glass packs lol.raspy/blat that sounds like a backfire-kinda,sorta when you let of her after a high rev.
not everyone's into that kinda sound,but a lot here are iv noticed.

the miss is not good though.i cant image having it cut with no muffler right at the cab,ouch my ears.
she likely can exhale much better,and be able to take more fuel in faster,since it can let it out quicker,and poor injectors that could keep up with a restrictive exhaust,can't do so with free flow.
do you have a local shop that will test them for you? how many miles on 'em?

Mileage unkown for the injectors, yeah sorry I described it wrong, back fire wasn't the right word, she misses at high rpms tho.

She def has more power running down the interstate tho so I'm gonna leave her open for now just to see what the mileage difference is.

mine sounds more like an engine brake on a big rig at revs over 2500

when im coming up to a stop, before I get there I like to kick my tranny outta OD and just very lightly touch the accelerator. It keeps the tq convertor locked up and makes it sound kinda like a jake brake until the rpms get low. I should take a video of it one of these days.......

Does it kinda sound like this when it hits high rpms? Listen to the exhaust when it hits the higher rpms.

lol I do it all the time unless i forget. More than once ive forgotten to kick it back into OD until the next stop lol...oops

Somebody on here mentioned doing it a while back.....thats when I started doing it lol. They said it dont hurt the tranny any.....i kinda hope it makes it puke so I can swap in a 5 spd lol.

i was thinkin the same thing or even a zf6 i remember someone on here was lookin in to tryin to make one fit it might have even been star but i dont remember

theirs a guy on OB thats running a zf6 on his IDI. Theirs a writeup on how to do it floating around somewhere.
