352 oil capacity

1965/76 F100/350 FE's should use the horizontal oil filter adapter. 1965/71 FE Passenger Cars use the vertical oil filter adapter.
Using a vertical adapter on a truck: The filter will be inches from the engine crossmember, if the left motor mount (steel/rubber insulator) breaks, which is somewhat common, the filter will hit the crossmember, splitting it open. Not pleasant!
Original Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 'spin on' oil filter was FL-1. Today's it's Motorcraft FL-1A

ND, the vertical oil adapter was replaced with truck one because the filter WOULD NOT clear the frame. Not even close as it hangs into frame at least 1 1/4"

Wow...are some REALLY still debating this...
I have a 68 owners manual among my collection...and just for the heck of it I looked to see what it said about refill amounts/crankcase capacities..
For ALL gasoline engines in the F100-350 trucks EXCEPT the 240-6, the owners manual says the same thing...5 quart capacity, add 1 with filter change.. Page 57 for those interested...and one of my manuals happens to have a nice lil pen asterisk next to the footnote of add a quart with filter change.

NumberDummy did your '65 have a front or a rear sump pan? I know the rear sump pans hold more than front sumps (IDK how much). On my all original, never been apart 352, I put 6.5 quarts in (way over full) and it will be on add in 500 miles (the assemblers did a poor job at sealing the rear of the intake; oil literally runs out).

Man, that poor 🐴 horse!
One thing I didn't see mentioned it may be somebody who installed six (6) quarts and started fogging the neighborhood has an engine with a lot of internal sludge buildup.
Neglected engines, engines that have never had an overhaul or rebuild, back in the days especially of leaded gasoline and dirt cheap re-refined paraffin motor oil etc etc would have an inch of heavy sludge buildup in the pan. That could easily explain why a particular engine won't take 6 quarts.
