(Engine Talk) Ford and the Compatition.
I've been keeping up on the latest of whats coming out and what the future holds for Full size trucks. And I have learned that GM and Chrysler are both upping their engine line up. GM for instance is working on a completely new engine line up for their Car's and Trucks.
These GEN V Vortec engines will be...
Over Head Valve.
Direct Injected.
All Aluminum.
It is rumored that there is an engine from this GEN V Family that is over 7.0L
And Chrysler is going to up their current 5.7L Hemi to 6.4L.
This all leave's me to wonder...
The big word at Ford these days seems to be the exact opposite of this. Downsize Downsize and Downsize....With some more Downsize on the side.
I am troubled that...(And it could just be me that worries about this) But Ford seems to be trying to replace V8's with V6's. And V6's with 4'cyls. The new 5.0L V8 looks to be only V8 that will most likely be offered across all trim levels of F-150 come 2011. It sounds like Ford is going to try and hold out on the 6.2L And reserve it For only high end models like King Ranch Platinum and Harley Davidson.
But anyway I'm getting a little off topic here. My point is why is Ford focusing so hard on trying to change the game with a Twin Turbo V6 Instead of investing a good sum of money into updating their V8's and by update I mean get the 5.0L and 6.2L across all trim levels of F-150. I thought the main reason Ford was down sizing was to meet the increasing CAFE standers. But if GM And Chrysler can meet it with N/A V8's why can't Ford?
I could be completely wrong. So many things about the engine line offered by Ford GM and Dodge for 2011 and beyond is still completely speculative. The only thing I know for sure is this.
(Ford F-150)
Ford 2.5L EB I4 - Possibility as base engine offering 2012. Unconfirmed.
Ford 3.7L N/A V6 - Possibility for 2012 model year. Unconfirmed.
Ford 3.5 EB V6 - 2011 Model Year. Confirmed.
Ford 5.0L V8 - Most likely available for 2011. Unconfirmed.
Ford 6.2L V8 - Possibly available on select F-150 Models. Unconfirmed.
(Chevy Silverado)
All new engine lineup by 2013. In the developmental stages now.
(Dodge Ram)
5.7L Hemi gets bumped from 5.7L to 6.4L possibly for 2012. Power is said to be around 450hp.
The most recent rumor Ive heard, at least as far as Ford goes. Was on this site by someone claiming that they spoke to a Ford executive or someone of knowledge and importance. And they were told that for 2011 The F-150's would have 5 engine offerings 4 of them new engines and 1 of them carryover. Although I'm not really sure how accurate this is. Seeing as in Mustang form at least the 3.7L V6 makes more power and relativity close torque numbers to that of a 4.6L 3v V8. So I don't really see how the 4.6L fits in here. But here's what he said.
3.7L V6. Base engine
3.5L EB V6
4.6L 3v
5.0L Coyote Engine
6.2L For Raptor, Platinum, King Ranch, Harley Davidson.
3.7L V6 307hp 280 lb/tq
4.6L 3v V8 292hp 320 lb/tq
3.5L EB is suppose to be about 385hp 385 lb/tq
5.0L 365 hp and 413 lb/tq
6.2L 400 hp and 435 lb/tq
None of this is certain or confirmed though so don't take it to heart.
But anyway if anyone has any feedback I'd be glad to hear. I am very interested in buying a 2011 F-150. But I want a V8 with it.

Ford is not going smaller. They are Improving all segments! THe 4.6 was replaced by the 5.0, the 5.4 was replaced by the 6.2. The Mustang 3.7 will be new in the F150 (about 305HP) the Ecoboost 3.5 will also power the F150, as well as the 5.0 Mustang GT engine, and the 6.2 will be available in some F150 models. These engines are way stonger than the engines they replace. Ford doesn't need to play catch-up with anyone! I'm waiting to see what will replace the V10 in the 450-750 trucks.
