Jared, You might better recheck, 4 ways will flash under any condition, turns & brakes have to have ign. sw. on to operate. I just went out and checked my Taurus, brakes work on the later model, turns still have to have sw. on.
Jeff, Your issue is at the front of the truck, shouldn't take much trouble shooting with a circuit tester to figure it out.
Where are you, maybe a reader close by might give you a hand.

Turn signals on most cars and trucks (including these) only work with the key on, but there is constant power for the brake lights. I have verified this, with the help of my dog. He likes to curl up on the driver's side floor when I leave him in the truck, and I usually come back to find my brake lights on.

My '69 F100 requires the ignition to be on for the turn signals to work but doesn't require the ignition to be on to illuminate the brake lights.
My ignition also doesn't have to be on for the emergency flashers to work.
....I can't press the brake pedal AND take a picture of the brake lights at the same time but, I can take a photo of the ' 3rd brake light' that comes on (simultaneously with the brake lights) when I step on the brake pedal. This is with the brake pedal depressed and the ignition off.

....maybe current thread dates should be color coded in green while old thread dates should be coded in red (?). With this, it would immediately be obvious what is a current thread and what is old.

I didnt notice until you mentioned it. DOH!!!
Welcome to FTE Darren, what are you working on? If in fact it is a bump, your brake light swith will be in the interior, under your brake pedal at or near the master cylinder rod. Some have a braket that holds the switch, some use the shoulder bolt that atatches The MC rod to the brake pedal.
My spelling is atrocious today, forgive me.
