Just a friendly reminder...the Mustang II front end is the same as a Pinto ...

Update: Went to get info to find the title/apply for a bonded title and the vin plate in the glove box is gone and can't find it on the frame yet. So we're kinda stuck for the time being as I don't want to fix a vehicle up for some dude to be all "yup, that thur be my prized pickup truck, thanks for "keeping it clean".

The VIN will be stamped on the passenger side frame rail, top surface immediately below the fender inner apron edge about a foor or so in front of the engine crossmember...if you are standing at the side of it...its approx. parallel with the location of the generator.

- cs65

the vin has astreisks(*) on either end of the stamping...letters are around 1/4" tall...wire brush should uncover them easily.

it would read on the frame something like *F10CR000001*

Success! VIN found and decoded. My truck is a local sweetheart, made in Dallas May of 1961 (so it's a 61, not 62) with a 223 I6.

May 1961 serial number range: 170,000 thru 179,999.

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: J = 223 1V I-6.

The 5th digit of the VIN is the assembly plant code: D = Dallax TX.

Enjoy reading your posts

I've enjoyed reading your posts about the progress of your restoration. I bought a '62 F-100 Unibody with a 223 "Mileage Maker" last Oct. I had an '05 F-150 FX4 but a tree outside my apt fell on it, so I used the insurance money and bought the wife a newer vehicle ('07 Edge) and I found this truck on craigslist for a reasonable price but still a decent truck to drive back and forth to work and turn some wrenches on the weekend.

I've got a few repairs done to it but nothing major. I've never done much restoration work and I want to do right by the truck and keep it as close to the original vintage as possible. I have been reading different articles on-line and in magazines but still don't have much of an idea where to start. I know its got some very small rust spots and want to get those takes care of and the interior needs some new items (headliner, carpet, and seat cover) I just can't seem to find the right product for what I'm wanting. I've ordered everything I got so far from lmc.

But anyhow I've rambled enough, I hope you continue to post as you progress and I hope that I can learn a thing or two as you move along that I can incorporate into my restoration process.
