ENGINE HASNT RAN IN 3-4 YEARS, NEED TIPS BEFORE SATARTING IT

THE PARTS TRUCK I BOUGHT HAS 59,000 ORIGIONAL MILES AND SPENT MOST OF IT'S LIFE UNDER A CARPORT.. IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS AND WAS LAST RUN ABOUT 3-4 YEARS AGO.. I HEPED THE LAST OWNER GET IT GOING THAT TIME AND IT RAN GREAT, REAL SMOOTH.. NOW I WANNA GET HERE GOING AGAIN BEFORE I PULL THE ENGINE OUT FOR MY OTHER TRUCK...

MY MAIN QUESTION IS SHOULD I LUBRICATE THE CYLINDER WALLS FIRST AND IF SO WHAT SHOULD I USE.. ALSO SHOULD I PUT IN A NEW OIL PUNMP WHILE I HAVE THE CHANCE OR IS THE FACTORY ONE PROBLY FINE.

You can remove the distributer and spin the oil pump with a drill to get it primed up. Then you can squirt some oil down in the cylinders and turn it over a couple times with spark plugs out. Then she should be good to fire up.

remove the old gasoline from the carb, it has turned to varnish, drain the gas tank, the gas is now varnish, flush the fuel lines, replace the fuel filter, use some marvell mystery oil in the cylinders, dont turn the carb upside down if you remove it from the truck, unless your going to rebuild it, sedement will plug up all the ports, remove a lower screw from diagphram, or an accell diaphram to get the gas out if its still a liquid and has not dried up in the carb. hope that helps, Chellie

That is good advice but if he is going to pull this engine and put it in another truck I wouldnt fool with all that flushing fuel lines stuff. Clean the carb up some and then hook it up to a gallon jug and let it gravity feed to carb. I've done it many times on old clunkers that have been sittin in fence rows longer than I been alive.

Will the engine make a complete revolution by hand? If so its probably not rusted real bad. Id just get an oil can and pump a few squirts in each hole.

Change the oil after a short runtime.

my truck had sat for 6 years, "ran when parked."

I put 5 gallons of fresh gas in the tank, poured fresh gas into the carb, squirted a tiny squirt of starting fluid into the intake of the carb, pulled off the air cleaner, pulled all 8 spark plugs and gave each cyl 2 squirts of 5w30 from an oiler, and put new spark plugs in. cranked for like 10 seconds before turning over, smoking from the oil, and then running just fine.

Ive done this both ways mentioned. Either way will work but seeing that you are removing the engine I would pull the line from the fuel pump and go the gas jug method!

I'd go this route. Typically I add a little stabil to gas though. And instead of engine oil, I use Type F squirted in to the cylinders. For the first 1000 miles or so, I'll use a quart of Type F in the oil as well.
