No Warranty on Radiator per 9-23-1
Well my radiator finally went on my 08 F350, tank leak near petcock. It has 66k miles. I took it into the local dealership. I've been dealing with these guys and specifically the service writer for 12 years never an issue, and in my mind never been wronged by them. In any event they can't find any documentation regarding the extension of warranty on replacing my radiator. I read tsb 9-23-1 and it makes specific reference to standard warranty. I read a thread here that says the radiator warranty was run out to 5 years 100K miles. I believe this to be untrue. However if anyone has any info on this being the case please let me know it'll save me 1500 bucks.

don't know about the extension on the radiator warranty as we never got anything in writing from Ford. that I would think would be the case.
Trick on the radiator issue is gonna be why the fail. Did you have the venturi-T recall done? How long ago? That maybe the cause if it was just completed not long ago.
Hyper extended thermostats can be another cause of the failure. So I would push for a check in that area as well.
Those items in my mind would be a contributing factor and therefore may warrant a free replacement.

I was told by my service writer and looking at the tsb, failure due to the thermostat would be covered. The thermostat is covered by the 100k warranty and if it causes the rediator to fail it will be covered. Have them double check the stat. I was told that mine checked good so I had to claim it on extended warranty.

Just a thought here... If they're going to replace the radiator (no matter who's paying) and they have to do all that work, you may as well have the T-stats, belts changed out. Seems to me that it's cheap insurance to prevent another radiator failure.

The TSB is for REPEATED radiator failures not for the first replacement. It has also been superseded to TSB 10-5-2
"Some 2008-2010 F-Super Duty vehicles built on or before 9/14/2009 and equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit repeat radiator leaks due to malfunctioning (hyper-extended) high temperature thermostats"

No...if you are under the 36/36 then it is fully covered.
If you have gone out of the that then Ford parts are always covered under the 12K/12 months rule.
It may still be possible if you have a hyperextended thermostat that the radiator might be covered but they don't pull them any longer to the best of my knowlege. So getting them pulled as part of the diagnostics might be hard to do.

Senix,
The reason I ask is that I am paying $1300 for my brandy new Ford radiator this afternoon. My truck is 4 years old and has 29,000 miles. I know I'm a$$ed out on the time limit, but Ford KNOWS they have a problem and every job 1 radiator WILL fail, just a matter of when (at least once).
After eating this $1300 bill for their obvious lack of quality parts and known problem with no Ford assistance, what guarantee do I have that this will not happen again in 29,000 miles or 4 more years. Does this TSB offer ANY protection to me so I don't have to buy ANOTHER inferior product? I'm sure the answer is No. My point was that how will they extend the radiator coverage to 5/100k for repeat failures if they don't cover the first one?
Just seems hokie. This has been my first unpleasant taste of what Ford is capable of, I had always been a satisfied customer. Now I see why these forums are filled with discontent and Blue-bleeding Ford fans that dump the blue oval for a bowtie or a goat.
I'm sure they all have their problems to some extent, just seems like Ford is not living up to their "Built Ford Tough" slogan if the radiator can kick it's own a$$ in 29,000 miles and they are content letting their customers swing in the wind.
I'm done now.

Vista Pro makes and aftermarket radiator for the 6.4. If I had to buy my own that is what I would do.

I have 89,000 miles on my truck and they replaced the radiator and thermostats ( to my knowledge it wasn't leaking) but the Ford engineers told the mechanic to change it out along with the horizontal EGR, and oil cooler... while the mechanic had the radiator out he noticed the both belt tensioners were going out so he replaced both of them along with belts. I was having to high of a temp difference between coolant and oil temps. Since the engineers were the one who told them to do it they covered all expenses except the 2 belts.

no solution here just comiserating with you. I had an 08 and at 45k I had put three radiators in it. On the third one I asked ford what was the difference between this one and the last two? There response not a thing. We had the "T" installed in the bypass and the Thermostats replaced. After the third radiator I had enough and traded it in for the new 2012 to try. so far so good. Good luck guys I think its a loosing battle.
