Prolong Engine Treatment (for oil) and Stanodyne Fuel Treatment... is it good?

Hi guys! It's been awhile since I've been on. I have decided to change out the FS2500 oil filter as well as stock oil filter and fuel filters and thought I would "youtube" it out of curiousity. I found some guy on there talking about the different fluids to use for the 6.0 and Prolong Engine Treatment and Stanodyne Performance Fuel treatment were highly recommended. So.... what do you guys think? Are these two items worth putting in or am I wasting my money and risking a screwed up engine if I use them?

You are a 100% right on the source! It is powerstroke.com from youtube.

As for the Stanadyne... do you use it every fill-up or only once and awhile? Also have you heard anything bad about the Prolong oil additive? The guy on youtube says he uses it on fleets of ambulances etc and it has worked for him and has helped lower repairs. Of course I don't put a lot of faith in just anyone from youtube but the claims he makes on Prolong extending injector and HPOP life kind of made sense.

I use stanadyne on every feel up. Have 130k miles, 0 injector problems. Prolong, it doesnt seem that many here like it and if I remember correctly its very expensive. I would consider if I had an older wore engine but not on my psd. I think you would be better off spending the prolong money on another filter or another gal of syn oil.

I also use Stanadyne "almost" every fill-up. 75k - no injector issues.

Prolong uses chrolinated additives that can become corrosive. I would'nt use it unless I had an old powerstroke diesel that had injector issues. In your case I would pass on it.

Fuel additives can't hurt... I fuel up at truck stops 99% of the time and use Fords fuel additive a few times a year.

140k miles and no injector issues while using Fords fuel filters

Most of us will say no to the prolong until we see an oil report to back it up or prove that it is beneficial

I use Stanadyne Performace each fillup and believe that the additional cost is worth the benefits provided by a fuel additive. Stanadyne improves the cetane number, assist in water removal, lowers the freeze point, provides additional lubrication, and detergents among other benefits. There are other fuel additives that I'm sure are good as well, however I got started with Stanadyne and see no reason to switch. I've heard of many who are happy with Diesel Kleen and Motorcraft additives.

Check out the link below for more info.

I started with Stanadyne when I bought the trk new in 04 but switched to Diesel Kleen because of availability on the Stanadyne. It's hard to find on the road & I can get the Diesel Kleen at any Wal-Mart or truck stop, etc. I run the Diesel Kleen in every fill up as the 04 needs the extra lubricity for new Ultra low sulfer fuel.

for what its worth, i think my 04 gets better mileage when i add the diesel kleen to my tank at each fill up too. i try to run the grey bottle now during summe and fall but i will run the white bottle anti gel if i cannot find a grey bottle. as far as i can tell the only difference between the two colored bottles is the anti gel is included in the white bottle.

I started using Stanodyne about 2 years ago after reading about it on this site. I also read here that it increases miles per gallon. Being very skeptical of that claim I kept records of my mpg before and after starting its use. I am shocked but it does seem to increase my mpg by a little. Between a half and one mile per gallon. I figure that will cover the cost of running it and if the other claims are right its great. Injectors are very expensive. I have now switched to synthetic oil to check its claims as many here also think it will help your injectors and save gas too.
