Nice! Brad (beanhead) did the same thing at my shop. It's a nice mod!

The wire that has the identifying rib is the neutral or white wire, also the silver point on the connector, FYI

As nice as this mod is (and I even have all the parts to do it), ever since I switched to 5w40 full syn engine oil, I don't even need to plug in the truck anymore... let the GP's run and it fires right up... let it idle until the GPR shuts off (or until the frost thaws on the windshield) and the truck runs great.

ha, ha... you're no fun..

I've only used my block heater a few times this winter but I do like the instant heat when I do.

I know, Chris... I often play the "wet blanket" role... even when I don't mean to. I just found it ironic that as much as I like this mod, I can't make myself do it just to get 5 extra minutes of heat on the way to work in the mornings. Besides, when it's so cold that I want the extra heat, the windhsield is normally frosted enough to where I get the same "warm up benefits" by having to let the truck idle in the driveway to thaw the windshield.

No worries Pete. I totally understand where you are coming from.

We get a little colder up here in Denver and windshields need some more warmth to thaw with snow on them. And the weather around here recently, even with a block heater things take a few extra minutes to warm up.

I can clearly imagine how easy these OEM cords can get damaged if they get pinched. I wasn't too concerned on cutting either!

One would think it should be a standard equipment. Oh well.
If they added that as standard equipment, they would stick another grand on the sticker price

Good thread for us northerners. I think I will do it. We can get the parts from most marine or RV dealers. If I forget to plug in my truck it will not start. Could that be caused by the -40 temps?

Bob

PS: Not referring to Surrey and its mild winter temp.

Part #: Marinco 150BBI Marine On-Board Charger Inlet.

It's about 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" dia hole.

Come on up here next winter Pete! We'll show you how to use that block heater! The other week it was -15* without the windchill. Betcha never had to worry about your fuel gelling down there in AL!

Thanks guys. I will be putting one on my custom bumper i am mocking up.
Up here
Vrc9170, what oil are you running? Being your injectors run off oil, thin oil is a must for cold starts. Personally i run 15w40 sheaffers partial synthetics and have never had an issue this winter(first winter for me and truck). I also run shaeffers grease on the front joints. I am not a dealer for shaeffers but i will still tell you its the best stuff i have seen and am suprised there name isnt bigger than it is. Also run their deisel blend anti gel/ cleaner and never had a fuel issue. Also check you GPR. Mine looked fine from a voltometer, but my mechanic hooked up AE scanner and could see it was getting weak. You can also tell how many glow plugs are out. This is MN. Probably the same temps you see..
I plug the truck in for start up(keeps the oil warm) and its never been warm. are others seeing already-warm trucks? If so, what temps?

[quote=Josh88Ford;10024272]Thanks guys. Vrc9170, what oil are you running?

Hi Josh, I run Chevron Delo 400 15-40. I never try to start if not plugged in much below about +20F . When fourty below as my example I won't even try if it wasn't plugged in. I have never used any other oil since the truck was new in 99. Now has about 140,000 miles. (232,000 Km.) I replaced the GPR a year ago, but I have a couple of glow plugs not working. The original relay lasted for 10 years and over 100,000 miles. Still starts fine if plugged in. The first 10 years for this truck were spent in Dawson Creek, BC. Mile "0" Alaska highway.
