I'm gogin to try this on the doors as well. I added the "foam backer rods" into the rubber molding and it helps tighten them up alot but now when it does rattle , it's VERY annoying. This might quiet them down.

I believe they are talking about the actual D shaped part of the latch, the fixed portion. Sounds like there is some slop in the alignment of the door and the tape is filling the gap. I tried the same thing on my old Daytonas hatch, it worked...well..until the tape came apart from the wear and tear and the small pieces got caught in the latch and it would no longer lock on and had to be replaced..
if the couple wraps of tape fix it, a minute adjustment on the door will do the same thing and is a lot cheaper than a new latch...
