Nice hot and humid day in Maine today.
Right now I thank Willis Haviland Carrier and before you google him, I'll tell you that he invented the first large scale electric Air Conditioner in 1902 . The Packard Motor Car Company, in 1939, was the first to install it in their vehicles as an option and while it took up the entire space of the trunk, it cost $274 (that's over $4000 in today's money).
By 1969 over half of all automobiles were equipped with AC. It was a must when I was looking to buy a 73-77 F150.
Anyone know when Ford first used AC in their vehicles? My guess is the 1965 Ford Galaxie.
Have a great night everyone. Happy Thursday night. Tomorrow is Friday!!!

You can actually survive in New England without it, I think. It's only a month or so that it's pretty rough. I lived in Texas and like winters in Maine, if you don't have AC, you can't live there; in home and in vehicle.

I did contracting work in Philadelphia for a month in the middle of the summer and my truck didn't have AC. It was absolute torture. I wouldn't do it again, I can handle extreme cold but not heat. I went a northern Maine winter years ago without heat in my truck. I just dressed like I was going snowmobiling and had to use the ice scraper on the inside of the windshield.

Yeah, me and my friend took summer school together and I was driving. We would leave at noon and the inside of the car would be at about 140. The front windows wouldn't go down and the back two only went down half way... Not fun at all...
Well now I look at 80 in the summer as too hot. LOL
Winter is ok as long as it isn't in the negative numbers...
