Trans tunnel rot

Hey guys, so I am going to be getting a 97 f250 single cab, the trans tunnel is rotted out around the 4wd shift on the floor. Im not sure the extent, but how complex are those tunnels? or is it something i could make easily out of some sheet metal? (I have an almost full sheet of like 14-16 gauge) If it is not that bad and its just a small section around where it enters than i will probably just cut a piece thatll fit right in. if it is bad though, can the whole thing be replaced or made?

Maybe you could go to a salvage yard and cut the section out you need.

A friend with one of those old Toyota Landcruisers repaired his rotten trans tunnel and floor using fiberglass cloth and polyester resin. It worked pretty good although, if it matters, it might not have the same resale value as a properly repaired steel repair. Polyester resin is pretty smelly and you can use epoxy resin instead.

If it is rusted out that bad around the 4x4 shifter, then I would think the cab mounts and floor board over by the kick panel would be shot.
