I've already had th head off and replaced the head gasket, the valves were not bent or stuck open, I cleaned everything up while I had it off and was sure to give the valves a little tap with a rubber mallet and they were all free.

Could it just be that I floated the thing and that's why they were bent?
I mean I know these inline sixes are not high reving engines and I did possibly over rev it once, but it acted fine after i did. then like a few weeks after all my problems started, or am I just being paranoid.

So, I got it running now, runs great!

Only thing is now it has a high idle.

It idles like it's not warm yet but it never idles down once it is.

Think you could list the possibilities,

I just wanna have a checklist, I know it could be:

Vacuum lines
IAC valve issue

but what else might it be?

I would but I dont have one

Probe the coolant temp sensor once the engine is hot. There are two sensors so make sure you probe the one for the EEC, not the one for the gauge.

Ford Fuel Injection Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT)

And, just wondering lew52, Did your eddie have a 5.0l originally?

I plan to do a 5.0 swap in this truck in the future and was just wondering how much trouble I would have.

I also have the Mazda 5 speed trans and know the 5.0 will mate to it, but wonder how much HP it can take before I have to modify or change out. I want to keep a manual trans in the truck.

Love your eddie btw.

Can't help you much with the high idle , my truck was a 5.0 to start with so the HO was just bolt in , you would need the motor from intake to oil pan , wiring harness , computer , all the accessory brackets & so on , it might be best to find a junk 5.0 truck & get everthing you need from it ...
