CA. SMOG CHECK FOR MY TRUCK REQUIRED?

Hello Ford Enthusiasts!

New to this site and so far really like it!

Need some advice. Have a 2008 F350 Super Duty Super Cab 6.4L Turbo Diesel. Just received Ca. vehicle registration renewal and says "Smog Check Required". My husband thought I wouldn't need smog check on my truck because he has same truck only a year older (I think) and he has not had to ever get a smog check.

If the vehicle has a GVWR rating of over 14,000# smog check not required. Maybe his work truck doesn't have to have smog check because he meets the GVWR rating as it has a service body.

Can anyone help me out with this? How do I determine what my trucks GVWR is?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

open the drivers door, on the door post is a sticker, the GVWR will be listed there.

My F350 Dually Crew cab, Long bed GVWR is 13,000

You'll need smogged...Your truck setup is identical to my father's and he had to do it a few weeks ago.

I hear that for CA, they are doing it based upon renewal at first? Or something like that. Watch them though. I think they like to run the motor agains't the govenor.

CA just started smogging the diesels this year. If your VIN ends in an even number, you will need it this year. If your VIN ends in an odd number, you will need it next year. I'm guess your husbands VIN ends in an odd number, or maybe he just renews later in the year. Regardless, if it an F350 or lower, he will also need to get smog checked.

Sucks to be us!

That's actually AZ. CA doesn't do that, they just snap the throttle 3 times.
