I tried loosening the drivers side fuel line where it attaches to the head. Still can't seem to get the bolt started. I can't get to the right side fuel line at the head its buried behind the exhaust.

Dealer time.

Thanks for all the advice.

Mike

IIRC, I used a small screwdriver to put a bit of pressure on the bolt while turning it with my fingers .Or maybe a little bend in one .. I also ran the bolt in & out of the pump a few times before installing it..

Loosen the 2 bolts on the fuel pump that will or should give u enough wiggle room to get the bolt to line up so it will thread in. Hope this helps.

I did loosen, tighten, loosen one nut, loosen the other nut, etc but still couldn't get the bolt to start. I just got back from having it towed to the dealer. Damn, sure didn't want to do that but was at the end of my roap and time since we are heading to Chico next Friday then Vegas on Saturday.

I haven't been beat like this in quite some time. I guess I'll have to get in some OT to make up the cost

Thanks for the advice...

Mike

On the passenger side head remove the motor lifting eye has 2 bolts that will let you stick your hand in under the turbo (not pleasantly but doable). then clean out the area under the turbo as best you ca you dont want oil, fuel or anything slippery in there or itll make things hard to hold on to. then get the banjo bolt and put something sicky on the outside edges of the bolts head and put it in a 1 1/4 shallow socket the sticky stuff is too keep it from falling out, youll probably need a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter as most 1 1/4 sockets are 1/2 drive. loosen up or remove the fuel pump bolts (as long as you dont lift it too high out the tappet wont fall out) then I assume your working on a cali emissions truck lift the flying saucer looking thing and make sure its aligned with the fuel pump backif possible wedge a screwdriver or something under it to hold it up and parallel to the pump. then force your lefthand under the turbo holding the socket with the bolt in it and slide it through the first part of the connector to the fuel pump. The using the socket for leverage and something to hold onto turn it and wiggle the fuel pump as needed to align the threads and start the bolt. as soon as you get it to catch 1 thread. let go and get a short stubby 3/8 drive ratchet then put it on the adapter the short ratchet will allow you turn turn a couple of clicks at a time where a regular rathet wont and the pump will align itself to the sleeve this way. the short rathet wont have much room to move either so you wont have enough leverage to cross thread it very easily so you should be safe. that should get you tight enough to be able to put a regular size ratchet on it if for the las thread or so where youll be luccky to get one full click but enough to get some torque on it. then get the stuff back out from under the turbo, and put the lifting eye back on and tighten down your fuel pump and your done. Ive done this before on a cali truck and it works it sucks but it works.

Thanks Oversize but I threw in the towel on this one. I did try a socket but couldn't get my hand under there enough to turn it at the same time as pushing in on the bolt and holding up the solid fuel tubes. I didn't try removing the engine lift bracket that may have helped. I read on another thread that if I turn the motor by hand I can get the fuel pump lift rod on the bottom of the cam lobe. That may have helped as well being that when I loosened the two pump bolts the pump would push up and toward the drivers side.
If it wasn't for heading to Chico/Vegas starting Friday I would have kept at it. I have to work Mon-Thur so if I didn't get all going by tomorrow I would have been in a jam with towing and working. I hate to let these little issues beat me but I waited too long. This leak has been there for over a year I should have addressed it sooner.

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike, sorry to hear this is such a beyatch for you, I went through the same thing with mine. After struggling for hours to just try and get it to thread up, I was hit with a stroke of genius, I held my pump in place and had it lined up properly, and I had my 8 year old daughter stick her tiny little hand in there and thread it up for me. She had it half way tightened in about 2 minutes. If you don't have any kids yourself, you gotta know at least one who would like to earn a few bucks for their time.

'350', maybe I should have done the same. My daughter, 16, has much thinner hands than I maybe she could have got it going?

Next time I'll remember that. My son is off in college but I could have waited for him to come home and give this a shot. He owes me, right
