question on life for the 6.0 dually 2006 F350

ive purchased one about 6 months ago its a KING RANCH 2006 6.0 Dually
had 28,000 miles on it and I got it on ebay for 28k, was very happy when i saw it in person the interior and paint was just as good as the buyer said, so far had to replace the tires on it and am thinking about installing the stock intake back from what i have read a lot of people are saying the air raid intake in unnessary

now it has about 67,000 and is doing good so far, i got this truck to tow boats , rvs and travel trailers along with some enclosed car towing for my business

just wondering what kind of mileage will this truck be good for? looking forward to hearing what kind of mileage people can get with proper oil changes and maintance.

thanks
Steve

Definitely go back with the stock intake. Much better filtration that the Air Raid.

You'll get lots of opinions on the mileage, many have 200-300K and still going strong.

I also hauled for a living with my first 6.0(which was a dually with 4.10's 2006)and after 380k I finally switched to a srw. People can say the 4.10's are better for towing (which is why I bought the dually in the first place) but I have a couple miles experience on this. I can predict you get about 10mpg's (must check at the pump, not the readout on the dash). When I switched to the srw my loaded milege is consistently in the 12-13 range which is a little better than the dually but if you run empty, which I run about 40%empty, I can get about 4-5 mpg's better with the 3.73's. I was adiment about doing hot flushes on the tranny every 30k and changed oil every 5k, and transfer case fluid change when tranny was done, and rear diff at 90k and front diff every 150k (I changed the front diff at 90k once and the fluid was still clean), stock air filter at 50k, and fuel filters at 10k. Also I made sure to flush the coolant with the stock air filter changes(even though I could have went longer.....why when its fairly cheap). I also made sure to only use distilled water with the flushes. I also removed the radiator and innercooler about every 200k and cleaned the fins out, and also sprayed the ac condensor out without removing it. I also rode with a spare cac connector hose(the blue hose attached to the turbo)and two new clamps. Once it decides to blow off, the only true fix is to replace it, however you could possibly reuse the clamps, but I always opted not to. I might have missed something but by doing this I got rid of a perfectly running 2006 6.0 with 380k on it. I am at home now so I have a little time to type and sometimes get carried away with it. hopefully someone gets something out of this.

lots of interesting info from your posts, so its great to read from someone who truly runs these trucks for a living

from the Ford computer i get 16 empty when driving normal

my last trip i recorded everything this is a ll from a computer

heavy duty Boat Nebraska to Wa was 9.5
oregon to FL heavy duty boat no engine avg 9.9
fl to Cali small travel trailer avg 8.5, due to the fact that it was high and loaded with
atvs and some other equipment
small boat lower than the F 350 Ca to Tn avg 12.8
FL to Maine small boat avg 11.0
back home empty avg 15.0

this is all from the computer read out so not sure how accurate but i kept track and have most of the receipts so will need to calculate the true cost somehow

thanks again for the good info here!

By my calculations, you have driven on average 6,500 miles per month to log that kind of miles in 6 months

You are obviously going to rack up the miles. It should be interesting for you and the rest of us to track the progress of the truck. I hope you share plenty of posts with us here.

Spending time here is about the best investment in time you can do for your truck. You will learn what parameters to watch on the truck to be proactive. The second thing is to install gauge(s) or a monitor so that you can see the parameter values. Just driving blindly won't get the job done on these trucks when it comes to long life.

There is lots more to say, but it is all here already just waiting for you to read.
