Truck won't start

It all started out like it was missing real bad and it got where it didn't want to start the only way I can get it to start is to plug the heater up. Can you give me any idea why it is causing this?

First thing to do so we can give any advice is to give us the year of the vehicle, any codes it may be giving, and any other info like that. This will help greatly. Welcome to FTE.

If it starts after being plugged in, check the FICM voltage. You can follow the following specification.

I'm with Bud on this, at least without knowing more. Get the truck code scanned. It will tell you if you're having glow plug issues. The block heater only warms the coolant and does nothing else as far as electrically aiding the truck. Do you get a long crank time and lots of smoke when it's not plugged in?
