I have a '91 F250 4x4, 460, E4OD, 85k miles set up for carrying a large Lance camper and towing an 4x4 vehicle. It's a great vehicle set up with slight lift, 34's on 16 1/2, three tanks (50+ gallons, etc.). I know that's a lot of weight; but; power really seems to be off at high rpm's...it seems to pull better in 3rd than 2nd.
Any thoughts on how to pull grades at more than 35 mph...? Also, any body in San Diego know of a good shop to help with the problem?
I'd imagine you have 4.10s in that truck. I suppose you could look at some 5.whatever gearing but since you carry a 4x4 with you, why not just go down a tire size to bring back your power range?
Just as a heads up:
I noticed your tires are 34s on 16.5. My brother has just discovered that tire sizes are being discontinued in the 16.5 rim sizes. That will cause a huge problem on a long trip if you can't find a tire.
Apparently no one wants that size rim anymore... which I don't understand, considering their popularity for the past 30 years, but that's what 3 different shops and 1 wholesaler have told me.
