Silly question about bed rails

I see some trucks with an angled bed rail and some with a right angle. I've noticed some longbed trucks have the angle while some short bed trucks have the right angle bed rail. Am I on the right track here?

Welcome to the site.

Well,ÖÖ.. itís not the same track as Iím on,ÖÖ. but thatís OK.

Do you mean the strips that hold the wood in the bottom of the bed or the ones on the side?

Iím not sure if 48-51 side strips are the same as 53-56 AND YOU DIDNíT SAY what year your truck is so Iím guessing here. Theses pictures are from the mid-fifty online catalogue.

If and when you get a moment fill in your location (user cp) and add your year and model to your signature line, gives us more info and makes it easier for us to give you answers.

Mr Mayo is starting off with a positive reputation.
Welcome to the forum! I'm thinking you're referring to the tops of the bed sides, as the earlier boxes had slanted or angled top edges, and later models were flat-topped. I don't know the specifics, but there are plenty of people on here who do.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm a lurker which explains only a handful of posts in 2+ years on the forum, always watching (reading) and learning before posting.

My F100 is hibernating in Michigan awaiting a transplant to sunny Jacksonville, FL. It's a '56 with a Lincoln 317 and T98 Transmission. It's a go-er more than a show-er.

In my previous post I was referencing the top of the bed. Though this appears to be on an early 80's, my '56 has the same flat top/right angle bed rail(s).

My truck is a í51,.. so Iím no help (as usual), Ö..but I think your truck might have a newer box on it.

The really knowledgeable should be along soon!

Couple of í56s off the net.

The bed side top rails on both the "6 1/2 Foot Pick up Box" were slanted from at least as early as 1948, and at least as long as 1972. The "8 Ft Express Box" had slanted sides from at least as early as 1948 and at least as late as 1956.

The flat tops on the bed sides began with the 1973 year Flareside bed - I believe. The earliest picture I can find of a flat topped flareside is 1976 - I can't find any 73-75 Flareside pics.

Later GM/Chevrolet Boxes had flat side tops as well.
