Ford79Mike, yeah you can run the E85 in your truck.More compresssion and more timing advance will be helpfull, but not an absolutely needed. You will have to rejet the carb, going richer by about 20-25%. You fuel mileage will probably drop some, unless you raise compression. Whether it is cost effective on a dollar per mile basis, I don't know....you'll have to try it. If someone near me sold it, I would be trying it. DF

The E85 stuff is what the "flex-fuel" engines was designed for, wasn't it? Actually, the vehicles were designed around the fuel. They had a sensor of some type that detected what type of fuel you were running and adjusted things accordingly.

Interesting in Nebraska that 87 and 92 are the same price. Here in Washington (state) it's 10 to 12 cents between 87 and 89, and another 10 or so between 89 and 92. My truck runs just fine on the 87 stuff so long as I don't pull into Mom and Pop's corner gas station and fill up with their water-diluted junk. All of our gas here is a 10% ethanol mix in the winter to "help reduce emissions". Right. The only reduction is in mileage. I just filled up yesterday at $1.49, which is the cheapest around. Most stations are around $1.55 - $1.65.

DF, a few stations near me carry that E85 stuff. I've seen it for 20-30 cents cheaper than regular no-lead(87oct). I'd like to find out if I can run it safely in my truck, it would save me a ton of money on fill up.
My 390 will drink it. I hope there is some in missouri when I get there. Maybe some 12:1 pistons are in order??? I'm not that lucky. I am loving this ethanol stuff. I hope its what everyone goes to instead of gas. From what understand you need a higher ratio of ethanol to air than you do gas to air. This might negate the savings in fuel costs. Still higher octane though.
