Help P0683!!!!

I've been getting this code for a while now (2yrs to be exact), I figured it was a glow plug issue and I stalled changing them. Well after an oil change the truck (2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4X4 w/ 235,251 miles) was having cold start issues so I finally changed the plugs (and one stupid buss bar those things are very fragile!) with no change to the cold starts, then changed the GPCM its a little better but the darn code is still there. I can reset the code after the engine is close to EOT (I figure when the glow plugs are commanded off). Any idea what this could be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
James

If you changed all that then I would start looking at the wiring harness and look for chaffing and the grounds.

The cold start issue could be the FICM. The FICM volts need to be above 45 at all times from KOEO, cranking, idle, WOT and anytime in between. There is a test procedure in the tech folder if you don't have gauges that read live data.

I tested it before doing the GPCM, it looks good.

You'll need a DVOM and this diagram will help get the correct wires: http://www.backglass.org/duncan/ps60...l/ps60_090.jpg
