I am in the process of replacing my tranny, there is some debate as to which one it is. It is a three speed with OD and 4wd. I was told it was a c6 but when I went to change the filter out I was informed that it wasnt. It has a 14 bolt pattern on the tranny pan. My question is the tranny I got does not have the linkeage on it so I have to reuse the linkeage from the old one. There is a rubber grommet that connects the linkeage to the shifting mechanism on the tranny. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove this rubber piece. Any Ideas.
Also what year and what engine does the truck have? What's the code on the driver's side door sticker under TRANS?
BTW 3 speed with overdrive means that you have three forward gears including overdrive. The number of speeds is the total number of forward moving gears.
The truck is a 91 f150 Custom 4x4. The sticker on the door does not match because the motor and tranny has been changed once already. But yes you are right about the gears but try telling my local Kragen that. I got the linkeage apart but now I found a piece that looks like it might be a plug of some kind sitting in the pan of the tranny when I popped it off. It is white with a dome shaped top and a o ring on the base and then a short stem on the bottom. The engine is a 351 Windsor.
I would love to have some of those plugs to plug transmissions that I have in storage.
It was just a plug to seal the dip stick hole while the transmission shipped and installed.
They push it into the pan when they installed the dip stick tube.
Just send the plug to me.
I have no idea what a local Kragen is.
Thanks for your help, I have the AOD. I am now adding a four inch lift with 36in super swampers. I am thinking of changing to 4.10 gears but I have been told as long as I dont get on it too much I should be fine with the stock. Whats your opinion on that. also if you need that plug I would be more than happy to send it your way. Let me see if my brother still has it.
Ok will do. I am going to my brothers on Weds so I will see if he kept the plug. If so I will email you. What do you think about changing the rear end for the lift and tires?
