Garage sale SCORE
Just had a friend of mine call me about some 80-86 fenders and hood that he found at a garage sale.
They are NEW FORD, that have bed sanded, primed, and cut in in tan. The guy wanted 125 per item. I got the 3 of them for 300.
Now this makes 3 NOS pass fenders, 2 NOS driver fenders, 2 perfect used pass fenders, 1 Perfect drivers fender, 1 NOS hood, 1 NOS drivers bed side, 1 NOS pass bed side, 2 NOS tailgates, One NOS flairside gate, 1 perfect rad support. I'm really starting to get a collection of parts for my 80 pulling truck

Well i kinda got screwed. As i was putting the part in my shed with the rest if the inventory i noted the hood. It had dried up undercoating inside the bracing. Looked a lil closer and there was rot on the leading edge of the hood. The hood was a used one sandblasted, primed and painted. THE GUY LIED. My buddy scored them at the garage sale for me so i didnt get to see them 1st hand, But i did get the guys NUmber. I called him and complained. he says he bought it that way and i can get my money back tomorrow.
Guess i'm still on the search for a NOS hood

In the late 1970's, made in Asia sheet metal began appearing in the US for the first time.
Ford sheet metal came in boxes, was painted w/a semi-gloss black primer (or flat red in some cases), and had the FoMoCo part number stenciled on the inside.
If not black (or red) primer, if no FoMoCo part number is visible, the sheet metal is either Asian, or someone is pulling the wool over your eyes...mis-representing used parts as new.
AND...all Ford sheet metal came Sally Rand = there were no holes punched out for emblems, mouldings...because some vehicles didn't have these features, or...
Because there were different models, the parts were not located in the same location.
btw: Sally Rand was a 1930's fan dancer, was famous for talking everything off. So the expression Sally Rand means...there's nothing on it.

Diesel_Brad, are you putting 1980 - 1986 sheet metal on that 1992 - 1996 chassis? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you are going to have to change out that radiator core support, inner fenders, bumper, and bumper valence panel to make those fenders and hood work.
Also, that 1992 - 1996 cowl panel you have on that red chassis truck is not going to look right against that 1980 - 1986 hood. The hood lines on the 1980 - 1986 will come to a sudden "stop" when it reaches the smooth, flat 1992 - 1996 cowl panel. I discovered this when I decided to change out my "slotted" cowl panel for a later model panel with the "holes." The 1987 - 1991 model cowl panel has the "holes", but is it also has the lines on the cowl to match up with the 1980 - 1986 (or 1987 - 1991) hood.

Those slots sure do let a lot of leaves and other garbage get inside the cowl. I *may* swap out that panel on mine, just to keep that crap from getting in there. Getting that stuff isn't always easy, and it sure does hold moisture.

Allow me to give credit where credit is due. I actually got the cowl panel swap idea from Fordzilla. This is a great mod because the original "slotted" cowl panel on the 1980 - 1986 models lets in leaves and other objects into the heater box and kick panels. I pulled out HANDFULS of dirt and leaves from the interior kick panels, and even coins and a pen from the cowl panel area! And if leaves ever get stuck on the resistor, you have a potential fire hazard. The "holes" in the 1987 - 1991 cowl fixes this problem, and best of all, looks completely factory!
Well, I am glad to see Diesel_Brad woke up and decided to go back to the 7th generation style!

Do it,it's completely worth it.My truck had 5 years of leaves in it,and smelled horrible inside because of it.I have the wonderful non a/c kick panel vents, which made it so much worse.Once I got all the leaves out,it immediately started to smell better.I haven't had a leaf in my cowl since.Last time I took the cowl panel off to put in the new wiper motor, there wasn't anything in there.

Yeah, my truck also has the floor vents, but with the added bonus of dealer installed A/C.
The guy I'm getting my 4wd drivetrain from has an 87 thats going to the scrapyard, so I'll snag the cowl off it, if it's still good. Pobably won't actually install it, until I start repairing the rust. At that point, it will have other spots of primer, so the cowl panel won't look funny. Too bad my truck is red, and the 87 is blue....... My paint is too far gone, so painting the cowl would stand out like the preverbial turd in a punchbowl.......
