Man from time to time we get one of those draged in to the dealer. Its gotten to the point were I just tell them sorry ford no longer supports it after 10 years, no books no tools for them.
In the event of a Electromagnetic Pulse Attack, it will be one of the few vehicles in perfect operating condition (without the radio).
My favorite 6.9L experience was being able to drive home from the deer lease with both batteries being bad AND a bad alternator. Just needed a jump and some guts to drive it with a "zero oil pressure" reading on the gauge panel. I was happy to get rid of it though - no 4WD and it used 2 quarts of oil every 3k miles for 250k miles.
I have yet to see a 6.9 in perfect operating condition. I did see an 7.3 idi injest a burrito once that was kinda funny.
I saw what happens to one of those red shop towels when a Cat 3306 ingests one on the dyno. Half burnt red confetti all over the place! For the record, that is not a good way to smoother a motor at full song on the dyno.
I've seen 6.9 and 7.3 IDI in passing, but never had the pleasure of driving one. After driving my 6.0L I'd have to say it would be hard to get down the road
