A/C Clutch gap 2003 Navigator

Hey guys,

I am going to replace the ac clutch on my Navigator.

I searched on FTE and couldnt find anything about the gap on the Naviagtor.

Is the clutch gap supposed to be the same as most I have search and read about? That is I have seen where on most Ford's the gap should be around .030.

Thanks for your help
Brian

Thats project SHO,

I have tried FAQ, I tried: ac clutch gap, nav ac clutch gap, and a bunch of other combos of the words and searches searches and I cant find anything for the navigator. Also it keeps coming up with sorry no matches.

Im stumped for sure! LOL

.030 is a bit wide, I'd try for closer to .015-.020.
The actual gap isn't critical, you want it as narrow as possible without rubbing when the clutch is disengaged.

When I wrote the FAQs two years ago, I put it in there. It is STILL in there...

Thanks project SHO, lsrx101

Yes I did see the FAQ you were talking about SHO.

I also read on the forum that: "Normal clutch gap is 0.014-0.030" (But that does vary slightly by model)".

So I figured I would ask what my specific vehicle's gap was. It just seemed that (this is from just gapping plugs all my years) 0.014-0.030 was a large margin of error much more larger than what a spark plug requires.

So reading the above quote and knowing plugs are gapped with alot closer tolerances, I was asking what my specific vehicle's gap tolerance was. Thats why I had asked for the specifics. Maybe I should have been more specific, but was at a loss for words (brain farts is what I call it LOL) when I wrote my post above.

It's a large range because it is a clutch disc - a wear item. They generally start out at the tight end of the range, and then will still work after a fair amount of wear (until about 0.030"). Most models are in that range, at least for Ford. If you get about 0.015-0.020" after readjusting, you should be good for a long time.
