Well...I purchased our EX when they first came out. Test drove it and feel in love with it. It's seen many states and had many good times. I just got the call from Ford this morning that the motor needs replaced...it was ticking like a bomb. They quoted me $6,600 out the door...new V10. Does anybody know if that sounds right? I would love to keep it since I know the history from day 1. Besides, I just bought new tires ($1k..315 BFG's). I figure $6k would be cheaper than going out and finding another one that I don't know the history on and would probably spend at least $2k on the extended warranty anyways.

Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are able to DIY or have a good and trusted mechanic you do not need Ford to do the install. You can buy the engine from them and have it installed at your home or a shop and likely save $1500/2000. Ford wants you to take the truck in for inspection after the installation to validate the same warrantee that you would get if the dealer.

Sorry for the absence guys. Truck has been running great since the event, little oil leak on the pan since I re-used the rubber gaskets and didn't put any silicone on it

It take 3 of my 4 kids to school everyday, has made several trips across Florida to visit family, three 6hr trips to north Florida, and towed our race car on a car hauler with 6 team members, luggage, and spare parts piled on the roof to Gainsville (7hr drive each way). Still gets decent mileage for the engine - did 11mpg for the race trip luggin all that stuff!

Here's a pic of it when we arrived...

Here's the race car parked next to another team who mimicked our car with exception of them putting in an LS1, we stayed turbo 2.5l l6. Both cars have a custom steel widebody conversion, 15x10" rims with 275/45 Hoosier DOT slicks...

More pics...

We compete in the Grassroots Motorsports Magazine $20xx challenge where you are only allowed to spend the dollar amount of the year on your car! We took third place second year in a row, was featured in the GRM mag's Feb 2010 issue and will be going to Virginia International Raceway for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge in July - top three contenders got a free pass to the event, just have to show up. The magazine wanted to see what our $2000 car will do against Vipers, Corvettes, Mustangs (most are boosted lol)

Performance BMW called and asked for a photo shoot of the car in March, and we have a strong feeling that we will be featured again in GRM.

The car ran a 33 flat in the auto-x and 12.3@117 in the 1/4 mile while placing 3rd in the concourse (car show).

Car weighs 2160lbs with a full tank of gas.

To answer the previous questions:

Ford will tell you to replace the engine if the valve spring broke, valve is bent, timing chain broke etc, but since the v10 broke I have had to opportunity to help rebuild a 4.6l engine and they are not that bad to do yourself.

To replace the rod bearings, you can do them yourself with the engine in the truck, as I did - in fact I also replaced all the mains and thrust bearings as well as stated earlier in the thread.

Hope everyone is doing well, will try to visit more often, but it get's difficult when we sponsor other forums for the GM v6, BMW's, on top of us getting a new shop that will triple our work space with less than double the rent

Hope everyone is having a good and prosperous new year, hope to chat some more soon.

-John

Not sure. They are doing a small coverage of each car in the event for the April's issue. There was 5 pages about the car Feb '10.

We build another car for the $2011 Challenge. It's on the table of contents for April issue. It's got a turbo i6 with late model subframes, big tires etc, came in 5th on the road racing.

Well anyways, the Excursion has been good to me since, just about a month ago the repair on the radiator made with 3M 8223 started to break loose, so I bought an all-aluminum unit with welded bungs/hose bibs. Thought you guys would like an update...

Tennessee 10,030lbs

Michigan 11,845lbs

Indiana 16,000+lbs
