Replacement or ?

Alright enthusiasts, my mirror is coming apart.

So, would you all replace or try to fix.

2nd question..... My door panels are busted all to pieces. They originally had the metal clips. Of course all the backs are broken. I just need some good replacements. My truck is my daily, so I need panels that'll hold up. I've found several places that sell repos. Which company would be the best and why. I don't mind paying for good parts, but I don't want to pay more just because of the company name. Suggestions folks? Thanks in advance.

Thanks ND for the info. I was wondering if it could be repaired or not. I use that mirror often and would like to fix or replace before it falls out.

I know that several places sell the door panels and the replacement mirrors also. I want who has the real deal. If they all get from the same supplier, great! I'll go with the less $. If not, I'd like to know before I drop good money on junk.

I bought a replacement mirror a few years back for 95 F150 from a chain auto parts store and had to replace within 6 months because the glass fell out on the interstate. Don't want to have to do things multiple times.

On the door panels-you'll pay a little more for Dennis Carpenter, but they're made on the original Ford tools. They fit and look perfect. They make them in black or red-perfect for your truck.

Bronco Graveyard often ships DC parts. Also, their "house brand" is usually good enough. Sometimes they're freight charge is a bit high

I'd avoid LMC like the plague

Since the right & left mirror heads are the same, you could swap them while you're looking for a replacement.

Any TYPE 9 mirror head (there are 4 different types) will work. The only real difference is the 1973/77's have a slightly smaller mirror head (5 1/4" x 8 1/4").

Thanks again ND. I think I'll swap the heads for now. I wasn't even thinking of them being interchangeable.

PapaBear, have you bought any of The DC panels. I was wondering about the mounting. Are they made for the metal or plastic retainers. I haven't found any pics from any company of the backside.

I have not yet bought any replacement panels. They're a bit farther down the list. The other stuff I've bought from D.C. has been top notch

I've read (can't remember where) that somebody is making the panels, but has modified them for tree studs. That would be nice

I'll be getting a set for the copper truck one of these days, as they're pretty busted up

On the mirror... swapping is a good idea. After swapping, you might try to repair the mirror. A glass shop should be able to cut the right size fresh tempered glass mirror and you or they could re-install the gasket and mirror with mastic.

Worth a look.

I bought door panels from DC. Really nice. I actually bought the seconds quality and painted them myself. The seconds came in a white color (not like the pic on their website) but I couldn't see anything wrong with them. You'll pay as much in paint as just getting them in a color from DC.

I did epoxy in some additional support on the tab that holds the arm rest.

What about paint for the door panels. I've seen a few that are two tone and I would like to do that. What is a good spray for it. I've not tried painting this kind of material. What have you all used?

You can glue that mirror back in yourself or let an auto glass place do it. Or buy a replacement that ND posted and replace the head.

Dennis Carpenter door panels are $, but the best quality. The one with open push pins are not the best quality IMO. But do have the push in pins go in from the outside.

Use the GM push pins that have a bigger head and are longer. Notch the new door panels to get them to fit tighter. The notch is to clear the 2 bolt heads for the latch. Get metal finger cups (cheap LMC) and they will cover the notches and hold alot better than plastic ones.

I JB weld or 2 part epoxy reinforce the back side mount tabs and did a metal plate over lay on the piece that goes under the finger cup.
